Vor rund 3 Monaten viel mir auf, dass ich meinen Ehering nicht mehr fand. Normalerweise lege ich ihn nur für #benso (#hapkido) ab und nach dem duschen wieder an. Aber wie gesagt, fand ihn nicht mehr. Da wir zwischenzeitlich einige Kinder im Haus hatten, vermuten wir, dass sie ihn zum spielen genommen haben, oder ich beim spazieren gehen verloren habe. Hab ihn wirklich sehr vermisst. Gestern Abend sagt meine Frau: hab was tolles für dich 😍

Der Ring lag ihn ihrem Rucksack, den sie für die Schule und Ausflüge benutzt. Ich muss ihn irgendwann einmal benutzt haben 🤭

Heute das erste Mal seit 10 Jahren (oder länger?) ohne Frau und Kind weg 😅. Drei Tage #hapkido und am Ende wird man kaum noch stehen können 🤪.

Aber es wird ein richtig cooles Wochenende mit #benso #arheiligen 😃

Das #training im #benso #arheiligen für K1 ist heute super besetzt: 5 Trainer und 4 Kinder 😆

Thoroughly recommend the upcoming #DaitoRyu #Aikijujutsu seminar in Helsinki (Daito Ryu being the precursor of #aikido and #hapkido). Organised by the #Sasuga dojo, they are one of the few places on the planet that still does this Japanese #jujutsu in the oldschool ways. It's eye-opening practise that benefits whatever martial art you do.

The theme this time is combinations, counter-techniques and randori.

I went to our #hapkido club today to watch my daughter earn her first degree blackbelt. This was the culmination of an epic journey that began with me starting a kids class (mostly because of her) when she was seven.

That one decision increased the size of our club tenfold over the following years, and built a really supportive community around us.

I stopped training a few years ago when health issues overtook me, but today - after my daughter was awarded her belt - they presented me with this beautiful pounamu.

It's a bittersweet ending to over twenty years at this club. I was the first student on the first day when my instructor started the club and it was him who gave me this today. I spent a decade running it as head instructor when he stepped down. I went on to train hundreds of people, compete in and win national competitions (on my own behalf and with them), and i trained many wonderful kids and adults some of whom have reached the highest levels. 16 of then were promoted today.

Pride and humility mix, as does sadness and joy.

K1 ist beim #hapkido von den Fröschen (den kleinsten 2-4) jetzt zu den Pandas 🐼 gewechselt und trainiert jetzt mit dem jenigen, der mit mir Abends trainiert 🥰. Ich tippe auch darauf, dass k1 schneller die ersten Streifen sammelt, als ich. 😬

I posted about my oldest girl raging against AI the other day, but tonight she was raging against the machine - performing her own song with her band at #RockQuest. It was awesome.

She also passed her second of four blackbelt tests on Wednesday, well on her way to her first dan in #Hapkido.

It's been a big week for her and she's a fricken champ. I am indulging in proud dad-ness right now.

Have anyone tried practising aikido-kind (or similar) techniques against kickboxing (or any street style fighting) punches and kicks?
especially the real speed punches?
incl. series of punches?

it sounds like extremely interesting "don´t try this at home" thing to do 😂😂

do people practise someting like this? especially here in Finland?

#Sasuga is putting together a full day seminar on #DaitoRyu #Aikijujutsu (the parent art of #aikido and #hapkido, amongst others) in #Helsinki, 1st Feb. Their seminars have always been very insightful, and they retain some of the oldest teachings of the art. Thoroughly recommend going.

Nowadays I'm little more than a parent helper at my local martial arts club. But tonight I'm filling in for the regular instructor (who is off in Korea at an international competition).

Because I have chronic heart disease and I haven't trained in years, my method is to stroll slowly around the room looking disapprovingly at everyone's technique with a stern look on my face. I have achieved a mythic status among the junior belts - the long lost master.

@sleepyfox the fantastic thing is how different each dojo can be. So when a sensei says ‘This is how you do it in #aikido’ I tend to now take it with a pinch of salt. At the same time I’ve learnt something from every one of the 38 dojos I visited.

I can also count 10 dojos of other arts (#karate x 3, #judo, #hapkido, #kobujutsu, #iaido, #ChoyLiFut, #HEMA, #bujinkan). Also 3 separate clubs that were physically in the same dojo as one of the others (2x #DaitoRyu, 1 Karate). AMA :D

Wow was this ever tasty.

I got the Vermicelli with Grilled Beef bowl (Bun Bo). SO got the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup (Bun Bo Hue). I did swipe some of the Thai Basil for mine. 😆

Needless to say, we had left overs & ordered a couple take out dishes for dinner tonight & tomorrow.
