SCARBOROUGH, Maine — "Hannaford on Tuesday announced that each of its 183 stores donates or diverts all food at risk of going to waste, sending no food at all to landfills.

"The parent company of Stop & Shop and Hannaford grocery stores has issued a statement saying they were recently impacted by a 'cybersecurity issue within its U.S. network.'
"Ahold Delhaize USA said Friday that immediately upon detecting the issue, they began an investigation with assistance from external cybersecurity experts and notified law enforcement.
"'Our teams are taking steps to assess and mitigate the issue,' the company said. 'This includes taking some systems offline to help protect them. This issue and subsequent mitigating actions have affected certain Ahold Delhaize USA brands and services including a number of pharmacies and certain e-commerce operations.'
"That reportedly impacted some stores' ability to accept payments by debit or gift cards. Hannaford's website also wasn't working all weekend or on Monday. Other stores reported issues with product deliveries as a result of the cybersecurity issue.
"All of the company's stores remain open and are continuing to serve customers, Ahold Delhaize USA said. They also said they will continue to take actions to further protect their systems.
"'The security of our customers, associates and partners is a top priority,' the company said. 'We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused customers and partners.'
"Stop & Shop has 93 locations in New York and 47 in New Jersey. There are 52 Hannaford locations in New York."

It's great to see #MarksandSparks leading on this.In the US, the #AholdDelhaize subsidiaries #StopAndShop and #Hannaford seem to delight in plastic packaging. I can't even buy loose lemons, they come complete with a plastic mesh bag.
I wonder why M&S aka #MarksAndSpencer can get rid of plastic, and a supermarket behemoth like Ahold Delhaize can't.

Can't blame them, even the local stores and schools moved out of the downtown.
In #camden along Route 1, you can see the old A&P store (now Walgreens) on the edge of the old downtown, then up the hill is a bigger grocery store that's now #Reny's and finally the #hannaford plaza with two banks with lots of parking but too far from the downtown to reach on foot anymore.
There's been a hundred years of that and it will take a long time to undo but we should at least reverse it. -

Most everybody shopping and working there in #Maine was sad, the produce was hit or miss, and there was no way that you'd find the random things that diaspora cuisine demands that places like Market Basket keep in stock.
Honestly, spaces like Market Basket were at least 5% of the reason I moved from there back to Somerville, for real.
