It took me way too many years to learn to play and experiment with my work, instead of doing what I know or what I thought was expected of me. But I always told students that artists are like mad scientists, and I have to live that more.
In that spirit I'm spending the last days of the year playing with paper pulp (and poetry), and getting a new version of this project off the ground. I'm thinking about making boxed sets?

We visited a 13th century paper mill in a town in #France that at one point had 13 mills. This worker there was nice enough to give us a tour, but the other mill, that is actually also as a museum, was already closed for the winter.

@Axiom @fiberarts considering I'll soon be regularly getting these things falling on my head & arms for a few months, this is a nice looking reminder of a future use of said plant part.

Mostly though I'll likely be dying fibers for handmade paper not hand spun yarn.

Went to one of the sites for my #handmadepaper project today, and everyone was so accommodating. Remember, I'm asking institutions to let me put wet paper on their buildings - which sounds wacky. But they suggested spots I might try, and even brought out a ladder for me. Amazing! Not every site has been welcoming, but I'm grateful for those that are willing to trust me & imagine that this might turn into something interesting.

Something a little different for me. I found my grandmother's lace bobbins, then stored them away for years before I learned what they were. I've seen fascinating videos of people using them, but have never learned this skill, so I used them by casting them in handmade paper.

So proud of the #CUNY York College students who I worked with last month to cast sections of this wonderful Houston Conwill sculpture in handmade paper. The project is on display in their student show (open to the public!) along with some postcards the professor made documenting the process. Site visit today to #CUNY York College, where next month I'll be working an art class to cast sections of this Houston Conwill sculpture ("Arc," 1986) in #handmadepaper. No one knows what it is, because there is no plaque or any kind of label. Even the guard in the nearby booth had no idea what it is, and directed me to "the art window" on the ground floor (which is actually the campus art gallery).
