I have been on enough RTL-SDR amateur radio hacker forum threads to know that NYPD is spending $400m to gut and replace its radio infrastructure with some vendor locked Encryption Solution that was proven crackable by some VTech Nickelodeon laptop you could win by finding the prize at the bottom of a cereal box in 2005

Working the birds with my less than ideal set up so far has taught me:
1. Always try even if most say it won't work.
2. Try ALL elev passes (I made a QSO at 8deg through my trees, neighbors etc).
3. Success is a series of small wins!I'll take 1 qso over none!

Also I tried a similar thing with UV82-HP and the same cable interface connected to a Raspberry Pi with various packet software, performance was terrible compared with higher priced radios. They are what they are, cheap fun.
