To the current student protestors, you are continuing #Columbia tradition, and I am proud of CU #students for sparking a nationwide movement. (The occupation of #HamiltonHall also harkens back to '68, when students seized control of the building to #protest the Vietnam War and the proposal of a gymnasium in Morningside Park with separate entrances for students vs. the #community. The spirit lives on indeed.)

  2. #wckr #columbia #protestor interview

After the protestors used tools to barricade themselves in
#HamiltonHall they intentionally left all tools in a hardware room so that there would be no misconception about them being armed.

They sat in a row and waited, disoriented and passively after the flash bang bombs #nypd used.

The protestors were kicked and brutalized by police as they were arrested.

  3. Hamilton Hall was raided by the pigs on April 30th, 1968, a Tuesday. The students stood for justice against racial violence and the imperialist war in Vietnam. Now, on April 30th, 2024, a Tuesday, Hamilton Hall has once again been raided by the pigs, ordered to suppress resistance from students who are standing against imperialist genocide, here and now.

    "How dangerous are "flash-bang" #grenades?

Flash bangs are explosives that are intended to stun and disorient people. "All you are trying to do is make a loud noise and a bright light," says Mesloh, who compares the explosion to that of an M-80 firecracker. Flash bangs are designed to temporarily blind or deafen people. But in rare circumstances, they can cause serious injuries (like blowing off fingers or hands) or even death. That may happen when the police officers make an error throwing the devices, and injure themselves. You are also at risk if a flash-grenade explodes near glass or gravel, creating a dangerous spray of tiny sharp fragments. Also, flash bangs can start fires."
