I just had wanted to check the equipment for tomorrow's solar eclipse, but was able to observe in H-alpha how the Sun spit out a lot of matter. There was an X flare with a coronal mass ejection. It went sideways and not in the direction of Earth.
Potato quality image with my smartphone through the PST. The red spot is the ejected gas, which has already traveled several 100,000 km away from the Sun (red disk).
