My own view of the #eruption of #kilauea #volcano last week! My family and I were lucky enough to be on a vacation to the big island the week of the eruption, this is what we saw two days after the lava lake in #halemaumau formed!

The mesmerizing scenes tonight at the Halemaʻumaʻu summit crater inside the Kīlauea caldera in Hawaii.
Lava fountain heights have decreased since the eruption onset, but remain up to about 10 meters high.
Average effusion rate = ~150 cubic meters per second for the initial 24 hours.
SO2 emission rate = ~65,000 tonnes per day.Current alert level is Orange.

The lava flow is currently confined to Halemaʻumaʻu.
