I remember #HaleBopp well. It gave me one of my few successful astro-photos. I took this shot on 35 mm film with a camera mounted piggyback to my 90mm refractor, which had an inexpensive clock drive. -

I remember it well. Here is my own meager #HaleBopp effort, taken with a 35mm camera mounted piggyback on a telescope that had a simple clock drive. -

Great photo.I remember #HaleBopp well. Here's an image I took with a piggy back camera using a 135 mm telephoto.

On this day in 1997, Comet Hale-Bopp made its closest approach to Earth. It was one of the most observed comets of the 20th century because it was so easily seen. The comet was the first I had ever seen and the first I photographed; I used a film SLR camera and tripod, and a snapshot photo lab. This is an old scan from a snapshot print since I cannot seem to find the original negatives for a direct hi-res scan. I shot this photo April 7, 1997, at 9:21 PM.

Kilometer (1,315 Astronomische Einheiten) an.
Von Mai 1996 bis Dezember 1997 war er mit einer kurzen Unterbrechung mehr als 18 Monate lang mit bloßem Auge sichtbar und damit länger als alle anderen bekannten Kometen.

This #HaleBopp image gives a good illustration of a comet dust tail and ion tail. I was able to catch this image in 1997 on 35mm with a #PiggyBack camera mounted to a basic clock driven mount with manual guiding corrections. The blue ion tail extends directly out from the sun's direction. The dust tail reveals the travel path of the comet.

Good shot. Very wide field. Here's my best comet shot of the same era, #HaleBopp in 1995.

I'm feeling nostalgic for the Hale-Bopp Comet, also known as the Great Comet of 1997.
It was such a magnificent sight to gaze upon, night after night, for months.
It was an absolute gift. Maybe that's why I'm remembering it so much right now, during the season of giving.
Oh, and don't worry, if you missed it, Hale-Bopp should visit again. Sometime around 4380AD.
Merry Christmas!

With the equipment I have, I can do #piggyback, though I don't do it often. I've gotten lazy as I've aged. But some years ago, using 35mm film and piggybacking my camera on my telescope, I captured a nice image of #HaleBopp comet.
