  1. A habitable climate?

Australian governments subsidising fossil fuel use by more than $30,000 a minute, analysis finds

"Australian federal and state government subsidies that encourage fossil fuel use and help drive the climate crisis will reach $16.3bn this year after leaping by nearly 10%, according to a new analysis."

"It found federal and state governments will pay or forgo the equivalent of $31,020 each minute in 2025-26 to subsidise companies producing and using coal, gas and especially oil, mostly in the form of diesel." >>

How much have our summers changed over three generations?

“What we’re seeing now is the rate in which the climate is changing is faster than any part of our Earth system can keep up with — our plants, our animals, our infrastructure, us." >>

  2. 2024 Climate out of joint

"This year, Earth sent clear signals that its climate is warming and tipping into unknown territory. Climate scientists repeatedly warned policymakers that unless countries slash carbon emissions immediately, the planet will enter an even more uncontrollable phase of warming and climate chaos."

"AI found climate change is making Earth wobble and spin more slowly.
Global carbon emissions reached all-time highs
Earth consistently surpassed 1.5 C of warming
Scientists found an unexpected new source of global warming
Researchers claimed Earth could hit 2 C warming by 2030
Scientists sounded the alarm bell about Atlantic Ocean currents
Antarctic showed a profound ice “regime shift”."

  3. Unprecedented peril: disaster lies ahead as we track towards 2.7°C of warming this century

"Our report stresses the need for an immediate and comprehensive end to the routine use of fossil fuels."

"Governments should introduce stricter land-use policies to slow down rates of land clearing and increase investment in forest management to cut the risk of large, devastating fires and encourage sustainable land use."

"Humans are not used to these conditions." >>

  4. Methane emissions have increased by 20% in 20 years

"The Global Methane Budget 2024, released today, highlights methane emissions from human activities have increased by 20 per cent in the past two decades."

"Global emissions of methane, a greenhouse gas more potent than carbon dioxide, are rising at an accelerating rate due to human activities. Methane is one of three core greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. It lasts in the atmosphere for just a few decades, which is shorter when compared to its counterparts, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide. Methane has the highest short-term global warming potential as it holds more heat in the atmosphere."

"The report found agriculture contributes 40 per cent of global methane emissions from human activities. This is followed by the fossil fuel sector (34 per cent), solid waste and wastewater (19 per cent), and biomass and biofuel burning (7 per cent)."
