I saw a suggestion recently that #GWS should undergo a move to #Canberra (and a name change) as they will fill Manuka Oval most weeks and be financially better off.
They would also have the advantage (after acclimatising) of consistently facing opponents in near-zero (or below) temperatures for night games at home.
Personally, I would continue to support The Dogs, but it might work better than the current mess they have created.
PS - I still remember Danny McGinlay’s banner when The Dogs faced GWS in a final in 2016: ‘Our club was made with blood and boots, not in AFL focus groups’

@jonathantrott I think the Swannies will *probably* win, especially with both of the Tobies now out with injuries.
It really has been that kind of year for the Giants, where they lost to West Coast and Essendon. And yet managed to beat four of the top six (Fremantle, Brisbane, Hawthorn, and Melbourne).
So it's not beyond the realms of possibility.
How it's tended to happen is the Giants are within three or four goals at halftime (or three quarter time), and then pile on a bunch of goals in a quarter.
Anyways, we'll soon see!

From September 1990 to June 1991, the UK deployed 53,462 military personnel in the Gulf War. After the end of the conflict anecdotal reports of various disorders affecting troops who fought in the Gulf began to surface. This mysterious illness was given the name “Gulf War Syndrome” (GWS).

Update: #GWS has defeated #SaintKilda to book their place in the 2025 #AFL Final Series., joining joining #Adelaide, #Geelong, #Brisbane and #Collingwood.

The final round of the #AFL season is upon us. Currently, only #Adelaide, #Geelong and #Brisbane are assured of playing finals.
That leaves six teams to fit into the five remaining spots in the final eight (there are 4 points for a win):
#Collingwood (60 points and 123%)
#Hawthorn (60 points and 122%)
#GWS (60 points and 115%)
#Freemantle (60 points and 108%
#WesternBulldogs (56 points and 140%)
#GoldCoast (56 points and 121%)The matches of note are:
Friday night: Collingwood v Melbourne - a Collingwood win will see them definitely play finals
Saturday: Port Adelaide v Gold Coast - Gold Coast must win to play finals
Sunday: GWS V Saint Kilda - a GWS win will see them play finals
Sunday: Western Bulldogs v Fremantle - whoever wins will play finals
Sunday: Brisbane v Hawthorn - a Hawthorn win will see them play finalsA loss for any of these teams mean - yeah maybe, we will see how the percentages go.
In addition, because the AFL have screwed the competition format and there was a rained out game *at the very beginning of the season*, Gold Coast have a make up game on Wednesday night against Essendon. If they lose to Port on Saturday then they must win the make up game.

Am 19.8.24 wurde eine neun Monate lang vom #BMWK zurückgehaltene Studie zu klimaschädlichen Subventionen veröffentlicht
In ihrem #Koalitionsvertrag hatte die #SPD, #FDP und #DieGrünen beschossen: "Wir wollen zusätzliche Haushaltspielräume dadurch gewinnen, dass wir im #Haushalt überflüssige, unwirksame und umwelt- und #klimaschädliche #Subventionen und Ausgaben abbauen." (#KoaV, S. 162)
Das #Bundeswirtschaftsministerium hatte eine Studie in Auftrag gegeben, um Art, Höhe und Auswirkung der Subventionen zu ermitteln. Diese Studie wurde bereits im November 2023 fertiggestellt und lag der #Bundesregierung vor. Sie wurde aber bis heute – also bis nach Abschluss der letzten Haushaltsverhandlungen der #Ampel – zurückgehalten. Die Deutsche #Umwelthilfe hatte vorher erfolglos die Herausgabe der Studie nach dem #Informationsfreiheitsgesetz eingefordert.
Der Studie zufolge entgingen dem Staat im Jahr 2020 allein im #Verkehrssektor mehr als 24 Mrd. Euro durch Steuervergünstigungen wie dem #Dieselprivileg, dem #Dienstwagenprivileg, dem #Kerosinprivileg, der #Entfernungspauschale sowie der Mehrwertsteuerbefreiung für internationale #Flüge. Durch die Mehrwertsteuerermäßigung für tierische Produkte entstanden Mindereinnahmen von 4,3 Mrd. Euro.
Die aus den Vergünstigungen bis 2030 voraussichtlich resultierenden kumulierten Treibhausgasemissionen betragen 51,5 Mio. t CO₂e bzw. im Verkehrssektor sowie ca. 17 Mio. t CO₂e allein durch die Mehrwertsteuerermäßigung auf tierische Produkte. Insgesamt führen die 35,8 Milliarden Euro Subventionen und Begünstigungen im Jahr 2020 hochgerechnet bis 2030 zu 156 Mio. t. klimaschädlichen Emissionen in den Sektoren #Energie, #Verkehr, #Industrie und #Landwirtschaft.Zu beachten ist, dass die Zahlen sich auf das Corona-Jahr 2020 beziehen, in dem die Wirtschaftsleistung und demzufolge die Steuervergünstigungen niedriger ausfielen. Zudem konnte ein Drittel der Subventionen, vor allem aus dem #Gebäude- und #LULUCF-Sektor, aufgrund fehlender Daten nicht quantifiziert werden. Die tatsächlichen Zahlen dürften daher noch höher ausfallen.
