Being a while I finished this painting as well.

Had a friend over who is convinced that with sophisticated metal work, we can make the #gunblade transform automatically so that by moving just one part, all the parts move, or even by pressing a button. Will investigate possibilities now. Also, I discovered RWBY / Ruby Rose's scythe x shotgun x sniper rifle and I absolutely need it. #cosplay #FinalFantasy #RWBY #mechanics

Oh, and I would like to mention that I initially had a "no 3D printing" approach to #cosplay because I wanted to do it in an accessible way, but I changed my mind and only did so for the #gunblade as for the outfit it's pretty obvious you could just use other fasteners / decoration elements instead of the 3D printed ones.

Anyone recognize these? I figured that my premium compass has a bracket for tools instead of the usual pencil lead so I could use that to hold my crafting knife and cut a nice circle (needed a really sharp blade, I couldn't even see it afterwards). The rest was cut through paper with the template printed on and then the magic of heating the foam. #Gunblade #Cosplay #FFXIII

Alright so I'm working on the engravings for the #Gunblade and while I am getting better cutting shapes into the foam, I can't get a perfect circle. Of course I can't, that's a really hard thing to do. So I'm thinking of using a round piece of metal because I already know that pressing heated metal into foam works great. Problem is: It needs to be REALLY thin, like 0.1-0.2 mm. Where do I get a 0.2 mm thick round piece of metal with a diameter of about 2 cm? #Cosplay #DIY #Crafting

So here's a major update on the #gunblade. :) The colors do sooo much but also I finally got all the parts correct so that they all have the right position relative to each other - in sword and gun form! Here are most of them assembled.

Good progress on the #gunblade this weekend so far. I really should have taken notes from the start. Took me forever to figure out something I had already figured out but not actually made and not documented in writing because at the time, I tried to make a professional CAD model which I later gave up. But now things are working quite well and I also solved an issue with parts keeping their position. Need to work on my thesis now though. #cosplay #FFXIII

Blender model for the #gunblade is almost done, animation next, then figuring out how to improve stability of the real thing. I also tried some things with leather this weekend and got brass wire for Lightning's red signature bag so it holds its form. Probably not the easiest plan but it's going to be fun! #cosplay #ffxiii

Major progress on the #Gunblade / #Cosplay this weekend. We got warm weather, so I could work with the windows open, allowing for much longer periods of working without too much dust accumulation (or the filter running all the time). I now have almost all the parts made and in their final form and got to assemble them for the first time today. Exciting! It's so frustrating I have to work with cardboard models for my #gunblade project. SketchUp can't handle SVG files well. Inkscape doesn't have good object handling and can't precisely move things around. All the CAD tools are overly complicated for my purpose and are also having a hard time using SVG files. I just have no idea what fucking tool would be suitable for my purpose. Cardboards models are useful but aligning axes and figuring out rotations is hard.

ugh. Well that was a continuation of my working day. Spent over 4 hours in CAD trying to re-make the #gunblade model, with little success. CAD is just the wrong tool. WIll give up now. CAD expects me to know in advance which parts I will make and I have to create them in the order of assembling. What I want is the opposite: I have some parts and need to figure out how the missing parts look which will then, once I have them, go first. It's just not possible so I am back to paper sketches.

I got a piece of electrical installation hardware that fits into the #gunblade model so I can use it as a bearing. I was just looking for pipes that kinda have the appropriate diameter, turns out the pipe connectors even have the exact diameter I needed which is coincidentally also the diameter I already have as a Forstner drill because it's the completely arbitrary but industry standard size for concealed door hinges.

In other news, I needed a piece of pipe for the #gunblade and while I only need 13 mm the DIY store only sold 3 m pieces and they were only 2 bucks so um... fortunately we have decent public transport and public transport vehicles tend to be really long and public transport drivers here tend to really not care. :D

Even though I fell into that rabbit hole I mentioned, I think I solved another mechanical issue with the #Gunblade. If what I thought of works, the handle will be able to move to the correct position when transforming.The blade already kinda works. #cosplay #props

I worked on the #Gunblade and listened to old mixtapes (I found more). On one of them was a song I had forgotten but immediately remembered. I copied it from a magazine CD over 20 years ago. Until 2013 I had no idea what it was (when I copied it, I still used a 56 k modem to connect to the internet). 2013 I figured out that the name of the band was the old name of a village in Germany and wrote a blog post about it. This blog post is now the only hit on Google besides a single (!) other page.

Okay, apparently I am doing this. I prepared some more wood parts for my #Gunblade. I now own a pair of brown boots, a package with some brown leather is waiting to be picked up and I just bought a white coat. I also figured out that the spray paint I use works on leather. #Lightning #Cosplay

I haven't even finished #FFXIII but I am pretty sure my opinion on Lightning will not change... hopefully :D

The #Manderville #relic #weapon for the #gunbreaker is gorgeous. I love everything about it, but especially the explosions I can make with it.

Not in class, obviously. In class, it's only for pointing, as pictured here.

The strong rune-like designs give you the sense that the gun is stuck in the "on" position, always ready to go and draining battery power. To add to the adrenaline rush, I like to leave it on two bars max. It keeps me and everyone who depends on me on their toes.

Now excuse me while I throw up a #Superbolide and give my healer a heart attack.
