Some of the best conversations at #NAMM happen when you're not looking for them. I noticed a shirt that said "I Support #Musicians" and couldn't help but start talking to Michelle Wolff from the Guitar Center Music Foundation.
What followed was a conversation about #music programs being the first to get cut from school budgets. About 150 grant requests every quarter and only 30 getting fulfilled. About kids who might never discover they were meant to play an instrument. About veterans who could find healing through sound but won't get the chance. And about Michelle's own journey—an #opera major whose voice was taken from her by vocal nodules, who had to rebuild her identity, and who never stopped being a musician.

Today was a GREAT day! I didn’t #worked, did some time to do #gardening, played my #guitar for a couple hours, went with the kids to have #pizza, bought some #clothes, then went to #GuitarCenter to play guitars I can afford but won’t get because I’m a “responsible” #adult, then took the kids to #petsmart to see animals
Wrapping up with drinking a glass of my favorite #wine while doing dishes and waiting for my wife to get the kids to sleep so we can eat chips while watching #tv

Delivery
The last time I bought something form guitar center’s website they gave me a delivery date, told me the package was out for delivery, and then didn’t deliver it. They did this two or three days in a row. When it finally arrived they had failed to pack the power cable and when I complained they asked why I needed it… it was a guitar amplifier… was I supposed to use it without power?
I had forgotten about all of that when, this weekend, I ordered a pedal from guitar center’s website. Today is the delivery day. It has been showing as out for delivery since 9:36am. The estimated delivery time says it should arrive between 11:30am and 2:30pm. It is now 2:47 and it has not been delivered yet.
Yeah, I should have known better. I’m never getting that (relatively) cheap little digital reverb pedal, am I. I’m an idiot. Just call me sucker.
ADDENDUM: I got an email notification saying the package was delivered. I guess all it took was me complaining about it on the internet. Heh, as if.

Guitar Center took out the neighborhood music stores and drum shops (like Lowe’s and Home Depot took out neighborhood hardware stores). Those are no longer an option.
So It’s really an online world for drummers. At least where I live.

#GuitarCenter is specifically for guitars. If you want a #bass you have to go to Bass Pro Shops. I don't make the rules.

I remember the early days of home computers, and like everybody, I had a Soundblaster (or compatible) soundcard in mine, and I was looking for one of those #Soundblaster midi cable adapter so I could hook up my keyboard. So I went to #GuitarCenter and ask one of the salespersons if they had one. And he smugly tells me they don't carry them because "they're for toys."
I just said, "Ok, thanks." But I was thinking, "Go f*** yourself. Who the f*** are you? You work at Guitar Center!"
