  1. In view of recent #MayDay polemics in #Montreal, including social-democrat politicians denouncing theatrical #guillotines by front-line workers, I have another excuse to post this amazing video, from the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympics no less. bit.ly/3QPnIlQ

  2. Oh, you know what’s really fun about Ellison Panopticon Datacenters of Doom?

AI data centers are creating "data heat islands" that can increase local land surface temperatures by an average of 2°C (3.6°F), with extreme cases recording rises up to 9.1°C (16.4°F). These facilities, which produce massive amounts of waste heat from high-energy computing, impact surrounding areas up to 10 kilometers away, affecting over 340 million people worldwide.

    So that’s exciting!

Reported initially by New Scientist, but it’s paywalled and archive links no longer work for me. Archive.org I guess has beef with some backbone provider and I’m caught in infinite captcha hell. 🤷🏻‍♀️

And let us not forget this blast from the past, where Larry said the panopticon is necessary to make everyone behave the way he thinks they should.

A Bruce Springsteen lyric keeps running through my head; Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in its funny bone, that’s where they expect it least. I realize the song was not meant as a revolutionary anthem, and in context it doesn’t make sense as one, but something about it holds true for this situation.

These are small fragile men, the #EpsteinClass, their egos stretch far beyond their human containers and the things they cannot abide, more than anything else, is to be ridiculed or ignored.

We need to make being a billionaire morally abhorrent, someone you’d twitch your skirts away from. There is no moral excuse for billionaires to exist, and they should not. We should shun them from polite society. And laugh at their outrage.

Hey, speaking of Evil, Ellison and Oracle, Oracle acquired Cerner for $28.3 billion; all the clinical records from 14,000 medical facilities, the CMS contract covering Medicare and Medicaid for 150 million Americans, a federal designation that lets them see health data moving across the entire system, and a commercial AI product selling access to 129 million patient records that launched 13 days before the CMS contract was announced.

HIPAA was supposed to prevent this, but it doesn't. And the contract that governs what Oracle can do with your Medicare data has never been made public.

  5. As of March 31, 2026, Larry Ellison's net worth is estimated to be around $258 billion, according to Bloomberg, placing him among the world's top three richest individuals. His wealth is primarily derived from his 40% ownership stake in Oracle.

Today, Oracle began executing what analysts estimate could be its largest layoff in history, with reports of 20,000 to 30,000 job cuts affecting roughly 18% of its global workforce.

Employees received termination emails from "Oracle Leadership" at 6 a.m. with no prior warning, marking the day of the email as their final working day.

The restructuring is driven by Oracle's need to fund an aggressive $156 billion AI infrastructure buildout. The company reported a 95% jump in net income to $6.13 billion last quarter.

  9. @GreenFire

I'm seeing a lot of nodding around the idea that #guillotines are dropping. The #acab are saying they don't have a #motive. Riiight.

I certainly hope that isn't the kind of conversation around those kids.

    Not all attention is good.

  10. I grow increasingly disengaged from politics in this country. I’m just tired of being lectured and demonized.

    Here’s why…

    1. IT’S ALWAYS OUR FAULT
The left always gets the blame and shame for the situation we’re in despite having exactly zero representation in any of the three branches of the federal government.

Despite the claim that “Democracy is on the ballot,” we’re shouted at for even the slightest hint of exercising our democratic power through dissent or reluctance to vote for the candidate we are instructed to support, as opposed to supporting the one we most align with.

It is expected that our votes should automatically go to the Center-Right Democrats. When we don’t fall in line, we’re accused of being as bad as the right wing or secret agents of Russia.

No genuinely held beliefs or concerns are permissible. We could not possibly have a legitimate grievances.

So, for the crime of not blindly falling in line, all losses are our fault.

    2. WE “DON’T HAVE A PLAN”
We’re constantly criticized for not having a “realistic plan” and are thus expected to adopt their plan. This belief that the left has no plan is widely shared despite the existence of a century of leftist theory. The truth is they either don’t know, understand, or like our plan.

But the irony is too much because the people lecturing us often have only one plan: keep believing that the same system of two party electoral politics that got us here, is capable of saving us.

They insist to us, without any evidence, that this time will be different. That these candidates can be pushed to the left. How, you ask?

    Maaaaaagic 👋🪄

They certainly don’t agree with any method we might choose to push them left.

They scream at you if you dare criticize their candidate. They suggest we're being radical or unrealistic for expecting their candidate to refrain from sending police to violently break up protests, arming a nation state committing genocide, or siding with capitalists over the unions. After all, it's an election year!

The left does have a plan, but it requires principled collective action and that won’t come from people whose only plan is to vote and hope.

    3. WE ARE UNWILLING TO COMPROMISE
It’s always that the left insists on perfection and purity tests. It’s our obstruction that is the problem, you see.

Things would already be fixed by now if we would just accept tiny incremental changes instead of insisting that we meaningfully and immediately address problems that cause people to suffer and die.

We’re shamed for standing on our principles because it's inconvenient to the campaign. We’re scolded for leveraging what little electoral power we hold through voting. The “right” thing to do, they argue, is to compromise because "THIS election is too important."

But we’ve learned that compromise is a one way street. What they mean is give them our vote, and get nothing in return.

“Come on bro, just ignore the genocide a little longer.”

“We’ll get healthcare someday, just not today. There’s just no money left cuz we just approved a trillion dollar military budget.”

“I know the cops are increasingly militarized and violent, and cop cities are being built all around the country but defunding them is bad branding and we gotta watch out for fascism.”

    A TEMPORARY SOLUTION…
For all of this frustration, it can all be temporarily mended in the short term with a few simple shifts...

Acknowledge our concerns and stop trying to gaslight us into believing we’re crazy for being concerned.

You don’t have to agree with us. Just stop trying to make us feel crazy or morally inferior for our deeply held beliefs, like:
    - wanting universal healthcare
    - stopping the militarization of cops
    - wanting an end to a genocide that our tax dollars are arming and funding
    - believing that actual meaningful action on climate change is important
    - etc

Because if you can’t at least do that, how can you expect us to fall in line and vote for your candidate, to save the system we don’t believe in? What do we even have in common at that point?

I'm just ranting at this point and I'll probably delete this later but I'm just tired of being in the group that gets blamed for everything when all we want is a kinder world with more equity and less violence.

Focus on the Nazis and maybe spend some time deprogramming yourself from what you've been told about the left.

And for the record, before anyone tries to educate or reminds me of the stakes...

I'm in a swing state, most likely voting for Harris, and keenly aware of the unique threat that Trump represents.

  12. The incentives and values of capitalism will destroy countless species and cause largely avoidable mass suffering and death for humanity. But, please, go on about how "capitalism is the best economic system ever conceived that has brought millions out of poverty" -- as if it doesn't literally create poverty and feed off of it.

  13. Strong language from our #Riverford veg box today - pretty justified too. #RightToRoam #Guillotines

"For centuries, while mainland Europe was in revolutionary turmoil, Britain’s rich and powerful avoided the guillotine by granting just enough, just in time. ... Now it seems that some feel responsibility only to themselves."
