  1. Some local news, from the city #Rochester #NewYork #RochesterNY near me

    "#NotreDame study finds Rochester’s #guaranteedBasicIncome program worked"

'“One of the things people are commonly worried about with this kind of program is that when you give people cash they’re going to be less likely to go to work and be less productive members of society,” Turner said. “And we didn’t actually find any evidence of that in our study.”'

It's weird how every time someone runs a UBI or GBI test like this, it always turns out positive. Like, I *never* see headlines saying "UBI Trial in Bumfucksburg, West Idaho Fails to Achieve Goals".

    They always work, never fail.

It's almost like they're a good idea and we should move past the "trial" stage, hmm? 🤔

  3. Independent data on the first year of Rise Up Alameda, a guaranteed income pilot program, showed that recipients reported improvements in their financial well-being, mental health, and sense of community, with no negative effect on employment. alamedapost.com/news/alamedas-

  4. @Lorry

Here's my takeaway from the article:

    >...spent two years developing a report which modelled an income-tested Guaranteed Basic Income (GBI)...

    >...recommends a five to seven year federal/provincial demonstration project...

Another report. Another demonstration project. No action.

To be fair, the article authors seem as frustrated with the situation as I am.

  6. Under the "Covid welfare state" : "For a brief period, and for the first time in history, Americans had a robust safety net: strong protections for workers and tenants, extremely generous unemployment benefits, rent control and direct cash transfers from the American government." Then it was rolled back overnight, by Republicans in control of the House.

Unfairly, Democrats were blamed for benefits lost.
