  1. The Google Summer of Code 2025 has ended for us at OpenPrinting, and it was the most successful one!

11 contributors did amazing work, and all of them successfully. Nobody failed this time.

And not only we liked the outcome, also our contributors loved working with us and most praised me and their mentors.

And we already have 17 candidates for next year ...

  7. 🚀 As the Google Summer of Code 2025 comes to a close, our two students write about their work, challenges and solutions. Mayn thanks for your hard work!!

  8. #NuttX Support for IEEE 802.3-2022 10BASE-T1S/L #Ethernet using Open Aliance SPI MAC-PHYs implemented by Michal Matias from #CVUT in frame of #GSoC2025 has been fully merged into NuttX mainline. The common part resides at drivers/net/oa_tc6. #ESP32C6 mapping and mapping for SAVM71-Xplained Ultra are good examples for straightforward extension to other MCU and board NuttX SPI interfaces. The accompanying plcatool for Physical Layer Collision Avoidance parameters configuration matching OA-TC14 specification is another contribution.

  9. 🚀🌈 GSoC 2025: Where we celebrate a summer's worth of labor for adding a byte to LLVM IR! 🎉🎓 Because, clearly, the world was just on the edge of chaos without that extra byte type to make #memcpy marginally more efficient. 🙄🔧

  10. For the Python programmers under you who wanted to make your app print, you probably have used pyCUPS to talk with the printing system. Perhaps you have also seen that it is not well maintained, not keeping pace with new APIs. Problem was its design, being a maintenance nightmare.

But for libcups3 it gets much better, thanks to the most Pythonic GSoC contributor we ever had, and CFFI:

  15. Working on a scientific paper and need to quickly insert a citation?

If you’ve used #JabRef before, you might know the “push to application” feature. Now, JabRef supports cite-as-you-write (CAYW)! (Also known as “cite while you write”)

In #TeXstudio, press c three times to open the citation dialog—no plugin needed.

    🛠 Setup guide:

Like with other improvements, this too was implemented by volunteers contributing to our Jekyll site, hosted on GitHub. It has been a great learning opportunity for many young developers in recent months.
