How do you like the pantyhose plant I'm growing in my garden? Just kidding! I've put knee-high stockings over the seed pods on this collard plant so I can save the seed without it falling to the ground or, more likely, getting eaten by our greedy goldfinches.
Collard blooms sure are pretty. I'll be saving the seeds from this plant - it was remarkably robust and lived for three years instead of the usual two.
Seasonal phone photo cleanout has yielded some pix of the final garden harvest right before our first frost a week or two ago. Nothing's left out there now except the "hard stuff" - kale and collards and some onion sets that are just coming up.
We have positively gorged on figs this year. Our little fig tree has been full to the brim! This is the last of them... now we'll have to be patient until next year.

Last minute harvest before the first frost. The green tomatoes will become pakoras for dinner. I'll slice and seed the peppers and freeze them for later.
The 2 oldest banana circles are finally hitting their stride about a year later. Cowpeas and sweet potatoes are the primary groundcover, 4 varieties per circle with pineapples and ginger mixed in as well.
Working on our soil is a long project, so seeing plants start to do something resembling thriving is super reassuring.
The newer 2 circles are not as joyful but that makes sense, as they have had months less time to break down mulch and food scraps and get roots all situated.

Repair time at the allotment today, the storms earlier this month damaged the strings and posts which hold up the blackberry bushes and so we added some angle bracing poles with some 25mm iron pipe and screwed them into the wooden poles.
Next project is to replace the damaged strings with some thicker rope and prune out any unwanted branches.
Also installed a new water butt for the polytunnel.

Garden update! My tomatillos are starting to really bear fruit. The most amazing thing is how resilient these little blighters are. They've been blown over by the wind, chewed up by snails, had bit fall off as a result...
The bits that were knocked off the plants were dutifully put in water, grew roots, and were repotted meaning that from 18 seeds I've now got a yield of 20-21 healthy plants!
