And here is my contribution to #GroupMetalAOTY2025 :

1. Mattias 'IA' Eklundh, "Resist The Erosion" - this album is crazy good! Can you imagine uplifting metal mixed with konnakol? Well, now you can. 😜
2. Tonnen Von Hall, "Ein Abdruck vom Messer im Herzen" - like a instrumental metal version of the 2000's incarnation of King Crimson. And there's some konnakol too. 😁
3. Testament, "Para Bellum" - they're back! 🤘
4. Cryoxyd, "This World We Live In..." - excellent old-school death metal from a friend of mine. Check it out!
5. Dawn Of Ouroboros, "Bioluminescence" - very nice surprise from early 2025!

Well, this took a tad longer than expected to finalize. #GroupMetalAOTY2025

1. Lamp Of Murmuur: The Dreaming Prince in Ecstasy https://lampofmurmuur.bandcamp.com/album/the-dreaming-prince-in-ecstasy
2. The Sun’s Journey Through The Night: Demo III https://thesunsjourneythroughthenight.bandcamp.com/album/demo-iii

5. Oskoreien: Hollow Fangs https://oskoreien.bandcamp.com/album/hollow-fangs

So now for number 1. And it's clear:

Paradise Lost - Ascension
https://paradiselostofficial.bandcamp.com/album/ascension

This album is simply magnificent, heavy, atmospheric, emotionally stirring! PL have once again surpassed themselves! Of all the albums on the list, I've listened to this one by far the most (I'm just guessing here, I can't verify it).

Second place goes to:

Amorphis - Borderland

As a long-time Amorphis fan, I am of course always very excited to hear what the guys will release next. Even though the album itself doesn't offer anything new, most of the songs are really well done.

I wrote my opinion on the individual songs here (in German):

Third place goes to:

Jinjer – Duel
https://jinjer-jinjer.bandcamp.com/album/du-l

It took me a while to warm up to the band in general. But then “Wallflowers” won me over, and Jinjer followed up with Duel. The whole band is incredibly talented, and I'm really looking forward to seeing them live in March!

Fourth place goes to:

Rivers Of Nihil - Rivers Of Nihil
https://riversofnihil.bandcamp.com/album/rivers-of-nihil

To be honest, I had hoped the album would rank higher, but it feels a little too fragmented. There are some great songs on it, such as “Water & Time,” “House Of Light,” and “Rivers Of Nihil.” The other songs are also really good on their own, but somehow it feels like a compilation of different EPs. Maybe it's due to the upheaval. Overall, it's still a good release.

Number 5:

Testament - Para Bellum

The thrash gods are back! The album starts off brilliantly, so it really should be ranked much higher. But then comes “Meant To Be.” It couldn't be any more cheesy; I think the song is terrible. Fortunately, the guys pick themselves up again right after that and steamroll everything. Unfortunately, the album still has its longueurs towards the end. This album simply can't hold a candle to the last release since “Dark Roots.”
