The professional and audience reviews are coming in, and Disney's Snow White is something of an unsatisfying mess.
However, if you'd like to get your fairy tale fix, check out my new novel The Fairy Godmother's Tale. Snow White is in there, along with Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and quite a few fairy tales you probably have never read:

The initial influencer reviews of Disney's Snow White are starting to come in, and they're a bit...um...TOO glowing. One even repeats word-for-word a Rachel Zegler quote, which is...suggestive.
But, Disney's new Snow White could NEVER be fully faithful to the original fairy tale, and neither could any adaptation for a 21st (or 20th) century audience. And, a little while back, I took a look at why:

Having now adapted Snow White for my upcoming book The Fairy Godmother's Tale, I have opinions on it. And you know what? Adapting that fairy tale is REALLY hard. Find out why:

First fairy tale I heard as a kid that wasn't kid friendly?
My dad read me Greek & Roman myths at bedtime, but he did get a book of Grimm's fairy tales. He read to me until I could read to myself.
Cinderella *really* stuck with me. It was the version where the fairy godmother was the tree her mom was buried under.
Stepmom forced glass slipper to fit by lopping the big toe off one stepsis, and a bit of heel off the other stepsis. Ouch!
Read "The Story of the Youth Who Went Forth to Learn What Fear Was" from #grimmsfairytales to my eldest. The title is a good recap: The MC has to sleep in a haunted house, spooky stuff happens each night, etc. We noticed that in the wording of the story as told, on the second night the spooky stuff all happens after midnight and before the clock struck twelve.
Question for the #folktales slash #medieval hive mind: Is this a storytelling technique, or did midnight not used be be twelve?

Grimm’s The Golden Key is the fairytale I based my gothic NB story on. It is a peculiar little story, quite unlike other Grimm’s fairytales. https://www.grimmstories.com/en/grimm_fairy-tales/the_golden_key #GrimmsFairyTales #Fairytales

5th of #GrimmsFairyTales: The Wolf And The Seven Young Kids.
Does everybody know this one already? In German-language "selected Grimm's fairy tales" kind of books, it tends to be included, in my experience.

It's kind of "Bluebeard and his last wife but it's the Virgin Mary and an adopted daughter, mashed up with The Wild Swans", to use some better-known stories.

Today's fairy tale is Cat And Mouse In Partnership. It goes about as you'd expect.
