"Aren't we all?" I shrugged from the settee.
"And you say this abuse is physical?"

"Yes, Life comes like clockwork, every month, and punches you in the gut so hard you bleed," I sighed, wondering what part of his medical degree didn't cover it.
"And she does this to other women?"
"Buddy, if you get enough women in the same place for long enough, she comes for you all at once."
"Interesting."
"It's either that or you find out you're pregnant."
"Are you perhaps conflating your mother with... life?"
"No."
"So just life, then," he turned the page. "I suppose it beats the alternative."
"I'm not so sure. Death seems pretty chill."
"Tell me about this 'Death.'"
"Last saw him smoking at the polling station with his kid."
