In 1946 the City of Los Angeles put 750 quonset huts in Griffith Park to house World War Two veterans. Over 5000 people lived in them and they were there for a decade. The spot where they once stood is now a zoo and a freeway.
In 2021 the City sent hundreds of cops to Echo Park to destroy a functioning homeless encampment.
There are 40,000 acres of parkland in the City. We could easily house all the homeless on just a tiny fraction of that, but of course that's not on anyone's agenda.
