Online proof of identity not being treated as a public service, and no regulation around social media recognizing and limiting the natural monopolies they create. Basically, no government provision of internet entities as a commons paid for by taxes.

Another year where feeding antibiotics to livestock to increase the meat yield is treated as fine, despite most modern medicine, and all surgery, being based on the existence of effective antibiotics. All while the *discoverer of antibiotics while discovering antibiotics* showed how microbes develop resistance due to prolonged low exposure.

Trump’s closing rally at #Madison #Square #Garden on the second to last Sunday before the election was a release of #rage at a political and legal system that impeached, indicted and convicted him,
a vivid and at times #racist display of the dark energy animating the #MAGA movement.

A comic kicked off the rally by dismissing Puerto Rico as a “floating island of #garbage,” then mocked
Hispanics as failing to use birth control,
Jews as cheap and
Palestinians as rock-throwers,
and called out a Black man in the audience with a reference to #watermelon.

Another speaker likened Vice President Kamala Harris to a prostitute with “pimp handlers.”
A third called her “the Antichrist.”
And the former Fox News host Tucker Carlson mocked Ms. Harris
— the daughter of an Indian mother and a Jamaican father
— with a made-up ethnicity, saying she was vying to become “the first Samoan-Malaysian, low IQ former California prosecutor ever to be elected president.”

By the time the former president himself took the stage, an event billed as delivering the closing message of his campaign,
with nine days left in a tossup race, had instead become a carnival of #grievances, #misogyny and #racism.

When he does campaign events, he makes odd choices of venue: [Yesterday], he appear[ed] in #NewYork’s Nassau County. New York State has not voted #Republican for president since 1984. In 2020, Trump won 38% of the NY vote. Yet Trump has convinced himself, or somebody has convinced him, that this year he might be competitive in NY.

The day before #JDVance tweeted at me, #Trump was livestreaming to promote a dubious new #cryptocurrency venture. That same day, he gave an interview to the #ConspiracyTheorist Wayne Allyn Root in which Trump reverted to old form to denounce mail-in voting because the US Postal Service could not be trusted to deliver pro-Trump votes fairly.

On Sept 14, he was mixing it up in the X comments w/a reporter for The Intercept & the host of an online talk show.

In other words, to have #JDVance as your own personal reply guy is not such an accomplishment.

But it raises the question of how a nominee for vice president has so much time on his hands. Can you imagine, say, #DickCheney, scrolling through his mentions, getting irritated, & firing off a retort? Neither can I.
