Eating more and getting stronger. Gait improved some. Still want a reassuring tug on my luggage handle.

It was suggested that I might like to expand our family by adopting one of the thousands of greyhounds being made homeless by the outlawing of greyhound racing. The suggester got some harsh words from me about exploiting animals and then offloading them as worn-out assets when the value's gone. I'd do it if I believed the racers' claims about caring for their dogs, but no one who cares as much as the racing industry claims they care would dump a dog like this. Hardly any would be re-homed because their owners love them immensely and wouldn't bear parting, according to how they're propagandising in the news and across social media.

Same with people who dump their working dogs, saying that they've earned a good retirement. Why can't they have that good retirement at home, with their families? We looked after ours to the ends of their retirements, nursing them through the frailty of old age. That's just a basic duty to them as family members. I probably can't imagine how these people disposed of their elderly parents. Maybe it was seeing how they disposed of their grandparents that brought them to this state?

Dismal Wrangler is teaching me to "walk the plank”

We have a load-up ramp designed for going up porch steps. Rocky balks at anything not on the level. So I’m having him walk the plank on the ground so he can get the idea of it being under foot and that feet need to stay on it.

He did three repetitions and said "enough" in the usual greyhound short attention span way. Will keep at it on the level for a while.

Ahoy, #Rocky here. I’m out doing important things while servants make breakfast. Coffee is made, waffles mixed.

I’m getting around well. I’m still going down the steps ok and have a good trot. Going up steps is hard. I need my nails done.

Dismal Wrangler has been trying to teach me to walk the plank up the steps but I’m not having anything to do with it. Maybe if I learn to go down first, up will be easier. But up is scary now.

I ate most of my supper while staff was out waltzing the mowers. Again maple rolled oats with butter and a cup of puppy kibble. Yum. #Rocky #greyhounds. Recovered some. Still nice here.

And I tailgated the mower through the gate and tried to go runner. I was recovered in next door neighbor’s garden. Turned into a box canyon. #greyhounds Still some spunk and mischief in Rocky.

Rocky seems a bit more chipper this evening than earlier. He mooched some of his favorite treats. Later, he ate a mix of rolled oats porridge and puppy kibble. He pretty much cleaned his bowl. The oatmeal was soupy which helped the kibble go down. I schlepped the bins out. While I was out with the bins, Rocky went to bed and is resting quietly.

Greyhound fans, I’m continuing to struggle against lung cancer but have been eating less than maintenance. I’ve lost a lot of strength to the point where my gate is unsteady on hardwood flooring. I spread-eagled Wednesday afternoon. Staff rescued me.

Wranglers put my rescue harness on. Garden sorties are now accomanied.

Rocky is off his feed again after difficulty swallowing Saturday waffles. I broke his up but apparently not small enough. A thumbnail sized chunk came up with some kibble.

Rocky ate a bunch of grass which he tossed along with a bit of blood and some gastric fluid.

Challenge is to get him eating again.
