Spot was attacked by an off-lead yellow labrador on our walk this morning. Fortunately the owner managed to grab the dog before it was able to break skin, though I'm told it's the same dog that a few weeks ago did attack him and draw blood. Spot's humans are going to report the guy to the dog warden.
Spot's fine - he seemed to have forgotten about the incident within 30 seconds.

The Tasmanian government has announced that from 2029 (when the current funding deal expires) funding will cease for greyhound racing in the state. This isn't an explicit ban, but given the loss making nature of the industry, it's likely it won't survive without being propped up by the government.
This is great news, and the remaining states should follow suit so we can end this barbaric, cruel practice in Australia once and for all.

The optimist in me thinks the findings will be that the industry did not learn from its dice with death back in 2016. That it will be found incapable of changing and becoming safe for the animals involved. That its death in NSW (and Australia) begins today.
The realist in me knows that the findings will be that there a few bad actors, and that the industry needs to change and needs to be given one last chance.

I’m on double secret probation after going runner at 0550. Dismal Butler didn’t check the gate latched. It wasn’t.
I know there are hares out there so I went looking for brekkie.
Dismal Wizard recovered me and we returned home around 0630 just as the high school bus was loading up shuffle-wraiths.
Fortunately, the rain had stopped and neighbors were not cross as Rocky prowled back gardens looking for hares. I recovered him when he went into one that had a good fence.

#Greyhounds are the only breed exempt from this legal protection simply because there is a racing industry that profits from them and from unethical breeding practices.
