I strongly suspect Joe Dante was told a Gremlins sequel would be made with or without him, by the corporate studio that owned the rights to his creations. So he took the money, and made that studio the butt of the joke.

Except that unlike Matrix Regurgitated, which is a dumpster fire where pointless ideas go to die - to salt the earth and prevent a repeat I suspect - Gremins 2: The New Batch is a masterwork of anticorporate satire.

The only way to watch the #StarWars sequel trilogy is to recontextualize it as a #Gremlins2 #JohnGlover / #DanielClamp fever dream.

Speaking of #ChristopherLee and #HammerHorror

I learnt -- probably from the #Gremlins2 director's commentary -- that Christopher Lee was really surprised by the adoration he received from the Gremlins 2 crew.

I think by that point Lee was not dong many films, like a forgotten star or something. And he probably hadn't starred in many US films either -- if any at all. I'm sure imdb will have all the answers.

But Lee didn't realise how admired he was.

He's also very good in Gremlins 2.

Probably his best performance really.

After watching #Gremlins2 I was reminded Brain Gremlin says 'Susan Sontag' and now every time I see her name on the cover of my copy of her book On Photography, I say 'Susan Sontag' in Brain Gremlin's voice.

I watched Gremlins 2 today !!!!

Such an enjoyable movie with lots of stars and stupid jokes.

And I never realised that the guy who plays the building manager is #RobertPicardo who played the EMH in #Voyager!

He's pretty great. He has a comic style of acting.

#Gremlins2 is not as good as #Gremlins but it is really fun. I think I actually saw it in a theatre. I think I'll do at least one more #JoeDante film with my sons, or at least the older one.
