The massive debut album in '78 followed by the equally bombastic Candy-O had the band on the road for two years straight. Still, they were able to find enough creative juice to move in new directions.
#SynthSaturday #GregHawkes was the keyboardist for multiplatinum MTV rockers #TheCars. But pretty much nobody noticed when his solo album "Niagara Falls" was released in 1983. I sure didn't! It's a cool + eclectic mashup of the #Electro du jour, including #Ambient + #Krautrock + #SynthPop + even some #Devo. AFAIK It has never been re-released in any format. But downloads are available. Worth hunting down! ⚡ 🎹 🎶 👍 😁 #Music #NewWave #SynthWave https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axNOY3NOqVo
#CurrentlyReading This is a pretty good read if you're into #TheCars. Most everyone who had anything to do with the band is interviewed. Love the chapters about the early years when #RicOcasek + #BenjaminOrr were ambitious but kinda rootless and unfocused. Also some insights into the industry's transition from bloated 1970s arena rock to garish 1980s video rock. Ain't always pretty LOL! 🎵 🎶 📖 👍 😁 #GregHawkes #ElliotEaston #DavidRobinson #ClassicRock #Music #Books #Biographies #PublicLibrary
#OnThisDay in 1952, #GregHawkes, American rock keyboardist (The Cars - "Shake it Up"; "Drive"), born in Fulton, Maryland.
#HappyBirthday #73 🎉🎂✨🍰🥳
#SynthSaturday #SaturdaySynth IMHO #GregHawkes' 15-second solo in #TheCars' "Bye Bye Love" is one of the most sublime moments in #RockNRoll ⚡ 🎹 👍 😁 #Music #Musicians #NewWave #ClassicRock #SynthWave #Synthesizer
