With regard to LANTERNS, opinions vary among people I follow here or #PopCulture commentators with relevant posts here. Let me share some wide-ranging examples (sources available upon request):
• "I rather liked the series Lanterns. It was darker than I expected, but delivered in the end. Now I am bracing for the show to be cancelled because it had a strong Black lead."
• "'This finale gets an A, and the show a solid B-plus. I underestimated how true to its mission this show would hold[.]'"
• "The premise seems to have been, 'what if we took everything about #GreenLantern that made it cool, and replaced it with a boring, under-budgeted version of [THE X-FILES] set in rural Nebraska.'"
• "I'm willing to forgive some common plot problems Lindelof tends to have. But [there's] such a weird Elseworlds ... tone, too faithful to be a weird take but totally incommensurate with [the] DCU timeline."
Meanwhile, my primary reaction is to note that I barely understand the appeal of art that's risk-averse; it's one reason why I haven't owned a #TV set since the 1990s and haven't watched LANTERNS or any contemporary fictional show lately.
And my secondary reaction is to observe that putting faith in Damon Lindelof and Tom King is difficult, based on what they've done before, so I'll probably opt to avoid LANTERNS at least as much as I avoid other storytelling on TV—?
