  1. So, hubby just got involved with one of the local historic cemeteries. Unfortunately, they are about to go broke! I suggested that maybe they should offer #GreenBurial plots. I know I would be more tempted if that were an option!

  3. Ashes to ashes, corpse to #compost: #GreenWoodCemetery to offer ‘human composting’ starting in 2027

    By Kirstyn Brendlen

"In pursuit of a more eco-friendly future, Green-Wood #Cemetery is going back to basics.

"Starting next year, the storied cemetery will offer a new burial option: 'natural organic reduction,' also known as human composting.

"The process is fairly similar to run-of-the-mill composting. Bodies are sealed in specialized 'pods' on a bed of hay, straw and alfalfa. The pods — designed to regulate moisture and airflow — rock gently back and forth to help speed decomposition.

"After just 40 days, the contents of the pod break down into roughly 160 pounds of nutrient-dense soil, which will be used to support Green-Wood’s many plants and trees. "

  5. "And we have a lot of people that will also say, 'I want to be a tree,' or, 'I want to plant this tree at my mom’s grave.' We help them get to the place of understanding what it might be to be the whole forest."

  7. So yes, I covered quite a few topics today -- including #Humanure and #GreenBurial -- because... Well, defecation and death are part of life. I hope to cover more #Permaculture and #Gardening articles next week, since it's a good time to start planning one's garden. And also places to purchase seeds (though #SeedLibraries are better, they may not have everything... Yet!). And of course, more #SolarPunk articles to inspire us in 2025! Join me next #SolarPunkSunday!

  11. "The ultimate green burial? Human composting lets you replenish the earth after death"

    npr.org/sections/health-shots/

"Seven states have legalized human composting to date, including Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Nevada, Vermont, and New York. It took California lawmakers three tries to pass a law to do the same, but it won't take effect until 2027."

    #Mycoremediation, replacing #plastics, #meats, #packaging, #leathers and more are all possible with #fungi, perhaps the important #organism on #Earth.

Using and doing Everything, Everywhere, All at Once to mitigate #ClimateChange may save our #species. It's our best option.

  19. Human composting, a process that turns human remains into soil, is a final gift to the Earth that some people choose for their end-of-life plans. Legal in several US states, the process involves placing the body in a vessel with organic materials that foster decomposition by microbes. The resulting soil can nourish plants and trees, creating a memorial for the deceased and reducing the environmental impact.

  20. Curious about home funerals and green burial in Australia? I talk with Sarah Crews on her podcast A Path Home - part of the National Home Funeral Alliance in the USA - about what's new, what's hoped for, and what's important in a home funearl.
