My grandfather visited Egypt in the 1930s. He recalled there were teams of men up and down the Great Pyramid working the tourist industry. They formed a "bucket brigade" that would physically toss tourists from one to another "like a sack of potatoes" up and back down the pyramid. He paid to do it. He said the view from the top was amazing, but he was unsure of the wisdom of doing it at the time and still decades later.
