Living in #GreatMalvern, I consider myself very lucky to have access to a theatre and cinema just a few minutes walk from home. The venue, now known as #Malvern Theatres but originally the Victorian Winter Gardens, is currently having £20m worth of mostly government funding spent on it (levelling up, ha ha). To quote, "The new building is scheduled for completion in autumn 2027 and once open, will be one of the largest multi-venue arts centres under a single roof in Europe."
I have just paid approximately £75 for two tickets to see "Our Man in Havana". That includes an almost £8 booking fee but with a £2 per ticket over 60's discount. I can't help thinking that the £20m would have been better spent on subsidising ticket prices, rather than making an already excellent theater complex even bigger. No wonder most people stay at home and watch Netflix. -

One of the small cultural things that, collectively, can make a big difference.
In the English market town of Great Malvern in Worcestershire (at the foot of the lovely Malvern Hills), a local initiative has resurrected a tiny theatre venue that had fallen into disrepair.
The "Theatre of Small Convenience" is some 5m long and between 2-3m wide, a converted Victorian public toilet (hence the name!). It was founded by puppeteer Dennis Neale in 1997. It seats an audience of 12, or 16 standing.
"Set to re-open its doors in October, the theatre’s first show is Sceptre, a seance-themed immersive show designed specifically for the space."
So lovely!
[My covid-cautious self has concerns about ventilation in such a tight space, but we can all wear FFP2 masks and I imagine windows and doors can be opened during performance.]

Here are two shops in #GreatMalvern with their doors wide open. The temperature is 3°C. Fatface and The Works aren't breaking any laws, but they bloody well should be! Have they not heard of the #ClimateEmergency? In any case, ultimately their customers are paying for their profligacy. I have been boycotting them for years for precisely this reason. #CloseTheDoor!
