  18. CLASSICAL or JAZZᵃᵈʲᵃᶜᵉⁿᵗ musicians/vocalists† —
What has been your most successful resource for hiring a pianist / accompanist for long distance collaboration?
No, there is no-one local. Yes, I've looked. For years. It's all country and emo-punk around here, or the actually trained musicians are working as teachers and have no free time.

My first thought is to go with Fiverr, but I wondered if anyone knew of anything "better." (Or anyone specific on Fiverr?) I know there are sortof musician-exclusive Fiverr-type websites, but I'm not sure about the userbase size and general trustworthiness vs "we hyped this up but it's pretty cobwebby"…

† yes, vocalists are musicians, too — I'm just covering all my bases

PS - Not looking for "live" recording, just someone I can give sheet music w/ some directions to and have them record me a track.

Gone is the romance that was so divine.
'tis broken and cannot be mended.
    You must go your way,
    And I must go mine.
But now that our love dreams have ended...
    What'll I do
    When you are far away
    And I am blue, What'll I do?

    What'll I do?
    When I am wond'ring who
    Is kissing you
    What'll I do? ......
    What'll I do with just a photograph
To tell my troubles to? ......
    When I'm alone
    With only dreams of you
    That won't come true
    What'll I do? ......
    What'll I do with just a photograph
To tell my troubles to? ......
    When I'm alone
    With only dreams of you
    That won't come true
    What'll I do?

  25. They Didn't Believe Me, (Kern-Reynolds), sung by Tony Bennett
This is widely regarded as the first popular song of the modern era, and the song that marked the beginning of the Great American Songbook. Introduced in 1914, They Didn't Believe Me, marked a decisive break from both the waltz rhythms and the schmaltzy romantic lyrics that were so characteristic of music at that point. Here was something fresh and new, with its use of everyday language, and it proved enormously popular. Music was never the same after this song. It certainly had an impact!

There have been many versions of the song. Tony Bennett, here with pianist Bill Charlap, gives it a soft, mellow, jazz rendition. Perfect for this hour of the evening.

And when I told them how beautiful you are
They didn't believe me, they didn't believe me
Your lips, your eyes, your cheeks, your hair
Are in a class beyond compare
You're the loveliest girl that one could see🎵

  33. Musical Interlude: Here's a bit of dark fun. This is a number from the Rogers & Hart musical "A Connecticut Yankee," in which Morgan le Fay sings of how, rather than cheating on her husbands, she just killed them. It wasn't part of the original musical, but was added for a revival where the character was made more a comic anti-heroine.

"To Keep My Love Alive," performed by Ella Fitzgerald.

  37. They Didn't Believe Me, by Jerome Kern, 1914. Widely regarded as the song that heralded the era of the Great American Song Book. Its innovations included using four beats to the bar, rather than the customary waltz-rhythms, as well as everyday language rather than flowery, more operatic language from Europe. Popular music in America would never be the same. This lovely version is by Julie London.
