After watching "It's Such A Beautiful Day" and "World of Tomorrow"
Watched each #animation after I saw the news about the release of The #DonHertzfeldt Collection on #DropoutTV. Totally not an excuse to test Dropout on #Grayjay.
But glad I did.
Both were quite a ride, surprisingly engaging from the get-go, and their endings left me in a thoughtful state afterwards.
Dunno if World of Tomorrow saw a physical or DRM-free release, but apparently It's Such A Beautiful Day is also on DVD, so I'll probably try to hunt it down.
About Dropout itself, natively, it's as bad as streamings are. Watching on a 3rd party frontend makes it less miserable at least, though I wonder if/when they'll start blocking access.

I love #grayjay's ability to download videos so much. I get so much satisfaction out of having the video play basically instantly, including when skipping around in it.

A #lifehack for all my #grayjay enjoyers: if you press the download icon on the Watch Later playlist, any video that you add to it (by pressing the little clock icon on a video) will get automatically downloaded in one click, and then automatically cleaned up once you've watched it. @futograyjay

I make exclusive use of #FreeTube, #Grayjay, #Newpipe, #Invidious to watch youtube but noticed youtube blocks most of it. What is up with that? 🤨

@jkirk absolut. @cahimelsiek was ich gerne nutze sind Clients wie #NewPipe oder #GrayJay, da lässt sich ein Feed nicht nur aus YouTube Videos zusammenstellen, sondern auch mit #PeerTube Kanälen und anderen ergänzen, leider noch nicht mit der #ÖRR Mediathek. @bastian_S

Quick try before #WestWed tonight
For watch parties, I do them on my laptop, with video on left & Mastodon on right
With #Freetube, I can adjust window size for that. Even better, I can use pop-out (a.k.a. picture-in-picutre) to have just the video on the left & minimize the rest of the app
With #Grayjay, I can't find how to pop-out the video, so whole app visible. & it won't even let me resize enough to fit to the left of the Mastodon window

@marcorudy oh, for YouTube I don't know. I'm probably the only person on the planet who doesn't use YT unless I have to at work. I was premium sub and used it a lot before Google started showing up smiling at the inauguration and donating $$$ to support dismantling democracy. #degoogle
But aren't there a bunch of apps that allows you to watch w/o ads? Like #grayjay and is the other one called freetube?
And if you previously used #Firefox – #Librewolf and #Waterfox are FF forks.

FreeTube has been down a long time and I'm worried. I'm rooting for the devs! I believe in you!!! People have been recommending Grayjay, but the fact that I have video suggestions is a deal breaker. The first and foremost reason I use Freetube is to avoid the media overload and algorithms while still watching videos. If Freetube can't pull through, I'm going to quit YouTube and finally pay for Nebula. (And of course see who's worth checking out on Peertube!)

Since my switch to a new phone, I haven't installed YouTube or other Google apps (since I've already degoogled myself very well). Instead of their app, I'm using #Grayjay, which has a better interface and more features than #NewPipe; I could even import my subscriptions from NewPipe. Not having the YT app also means I'm not shoved shorts into my face, which is actually saving me a lot of time because I'm no longer seeing all the algorithmic noise and only the stuff from people I'm subscribed to, which I'm actually interested in.

This just came to my attention, GrayJay is an app that intends to let you follow various creators regardless of what platform they are on, all in one place.
It is open-source and already supports services like; YouTube, kick, Odysee, Patreon, Twitch, SoundCloud and more.
