I bought a trail cam to learn what animal was pooping on our back stairs. We now have the first suspect, a Gray Fox, Urocyon cinereoargenteus, who returned two nights in a row to inspect our stairs all the way to the screened porch
Haven't caught it pooping yet, but it appears to spend a moment to mark the spot where poop usually appears.

One of the gray foxes did perk up when I came by. I don't normally feed these guys, but he probably nevertheless thought I had something for him. He ran around a little and made his way up to the rafters. They're kind of cat-like, and love climbing, so they have lots of ramps and platforms in their enclosure, along with places to hide out.

The nature center wasn't open today, but I went up to help with some electrical work. I did walk around and visited some of the animals (not entering any enclosures), and a few of them came up to see me. It was hot and humid out, so mostly they were all taking it easy.
The arctic foxes were panting, but luckily they're in their summer coats by this point. Them and the grays seemed a little perkier than the other animals, but they'd all prefer cooler weather.
Of course, all the animals have water troughs/bowls to drink from, which is replenished regularly. Some of the enclosures have ponds as well.

No trip to the nature center today due to lasting weather effects on roads, so I'm posting some past pics. Here are some #foxes.

Gray foxes are climbers, and our's have lots of plants and runways they can dart around on. They were also running around me and the other staff members who went in today.
The gray foxes aren't terribly social, but they're a little more so than the arctics we also have. Of course, they're always interested in humans bringing them food.

Finally got back up to see the animals, and came back with a bunch of good #fox pictures...
The gray foxes are doing well. We have two, and they got fed eggs, fish, and some cucumbers, for which they were all very happy.
One of them made a game of gathering the fishes and running around with them. Then he did that with one of the eggs.

The #foxes got pumpkins too, although I wasn't around for that. Here's one of the arctic foxes with part of his pumpkin, and a pic I got of one of our gray foxes.

Here are some #fox pics. They were a little more active today although they were curled up when I first came to see them.
The arctics were on their swings, and they had a little scuffle over an apple that fell into their enclosure, but nothing too bad.
The gray foxes are a little more social, and came right up to the fence.
