  1. #GrayWolf appears in Los Angeles county for first time in more than 100 years

Three-year-old black coat female, known as BEY03F, crossed into LA county around 6am on 7 February

"A gray wolf wandered into Los Angeles county for the first time in more than a century on Saturday morning.

" 'This is the most southern verified record of a gray wolf in modern times,' Axel Hunnicutt, gray wolf coordinator for the California department of fish and wildlife, said.

"The three-year-old black coat female, known as BEY03F, crossed into LA county around 6am on 7 February. Born in 2023 in Plumas county in the Beyem Seyo pack, she 'traversed nearly the entire range of the Sierra Nevada mountains', probably in search of a mate, said Hunnicutt. Wildlife officials have been able to track her location because BEY03F was fitted with a GPS collar in May 2025 while passing through Tulare county. To date, California fish and wildlife has not received any reports or sightings from the Los Angeles county public.

"On Tuesday, she was traveling further north, 'likely deterred by the Interstate 5', said Hunnicutt. Vehicle strikes are a leading cause of death for wolves.

" 'It’s possible she may continue to travel hundreds of miles in search of a mate or she may come across a male tomorrow.' "

  2. January 3rd, 2026 brings the Wolf Moon, the first full moon of the new year. It rises in a quiet, winter sky, glowing with the same pale light that guided #wolves across frozen landscapes for centuries. A simple moment of brightness in the deep of winter.

Do not let this event disappear forever!

  3. One of our most iconic and essential species, the Gray Wolf, could be permanently delisted due to senate bill H.R. 845. This bill would strip gray wolves of federal protections! 📌Call your Senators: 202-224-3121 • Find them here: www.senate.gov senators/senators-contact.htm #GrayWolves #Wildlife

  4. @‌USFWS announced they are walking away from their commitment to develop a National Gray Wolf Recovery Plan—originally promised for release this December. We cannot let this happen.

  5. Hey, Minnesota! The MAGA cult is at it again.

Trump’s bootlickers in our state want to gut our gray wolf population by stripping them of endangered species protections. The so-called “Pet and Livestock Protection Act” is just another excuse for reckless killing, all to appease hunters and corporate ag. Science? They don’t care. Conservation? Not their problem.

If your representative supports this, they need to hear from you. Loudly. Call, email, show up—especially if your rep is one of those spineless Trump-worshipping idiots who puts politics over our environment.

    Protect Minnesota’s wolves. Fight back.

  6. 163: The EU Review of Wolf Protection Status

    https://open.spotify.com/episode/3TIXgTU3Rd1Lcn2moMsz0l

The human-wildlife conflict with wolves has been brewing on the ground in the EU for some time. On the one hand, it has been fueled by a remarkable recovery of wolves across the continent, and on the other, by politicians trying to hijack it for their political gains. In September 2023 the European Commission invited “local communities, scientists and all interested parties” to submit the latest data in order to review the conservation status of wolves and decide whether to downgrade the conservation status of the species. Predictably this has sparked a lot of debate with clear demarcation lines between factions.

To deal with this topic I decided to change the format of the podcast and in this episode, you will hear from not one but five experts in their fields. I felt the subject is so complex that to present it in the most comprehensive and objective way we need to hear all the relevant voices. By listening to this episode you will hear opinions on this topic from a wildlife biologist, Professor John Linnell, a goat breeder, Bruno Lecomte, a social scientist, Professor Erica von Essen, an environmentalist, the Head of EU Policy at BirdLife International, Ariel Brunner and, last but not least, the Secretary General of the European Federation for Hunting and Conservation, Dr David Scallan. Special thanks to hunting journalist and blogger Denis Plat for his help in ensuring that opinions from rural France were voiced. Cover photo courtesy of Alick Simmons.

While making this episode I recorded many hours of material and understandably not all of it made it into the episode. If you would be interested in listening to the individual interviews with the guests in this podcast, please click here.

The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the individual participants and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of any organisation. The participants are expressing their personal opinions and perspectives.

  7. @Jackiemauro The samples were run by CDFW’s Wildlife Forensics Laboratory. DNA analysis showed 1 adult female & 4 of her offspring, 2 males and 2 females. Through further analysis of the wolf pup’s DNA the connection to an adult male (which was not included in the samples ) was seen. They determined he is most likely from the Lassen pack. … So there’s 6 #GrayWolves, 2 adults and their 4 pups! ☺️
