#Goverments around the world are pushing hard to adchive a total #control over #InternetAccess and as usually they will find the way to do it. I will oppose as long as possible by using any opportunity to protect my #privacy on-line. Hope projects as #GraphineOS #Fediverse and #Tutamail will keep their ground for years to come.

Been monitoring various non-Google-oriented phones as a gift for someone special, and I'm currently eying either an /e/ OS phone, GraphineOS, or CalyxOS.
All three seem like something that'd be feasible for someone who isn't super tech-literate while diving into an open source mobile ecosystem.#opensource #graphineos #privacy #calyxos #murena #teracube #phones #technology #fediverse

"I have several users. including one I use for banking. I got pulled by some corrupt policemen in Mexico and at gunpoint they made me unlock my phone. I didn't want to delete my phone cause I know that would make them mad. when they where scrolling through my default user they though it was strange that I had nothing on it. so they kept on searching and I thought I was safe but they noticed there are multiple users. So they got me.
it would be great that there was a way to hide other users within settings or something, because at gunpoint its better to comply.
Another option would be to add pin that when entered instead of wiping the phone. it logs you in to a "under pressure user" similar to guest user, but using the name of the user you entered. If you want to take it to the next level each user could have a unique under duress profile so if they log in into my social media tab they would find social media apps and accounts I really don't use. or they log into my secure mail user they would actually find the proton mail logged in but with a different account. Bad actors would be actually fooled even under duress."

So...on my laptop, the Desktop Manager hides possible users on login. That's good for rubber hose security (only if I have password root login disabled) #lightdm
But my phone is another story. All users are known once logged in. There is no "hide other users" password. I often read about people getting popped by the police for political posts. ICE murders and disappears people for this kind of thing. Would be nice to have a certain password to log into a curated "work" safe account with a browsing history and photos I share with my boss.
This is also a post about #GraphineOS which may be secure, but not against the old rubber hose security bypass trick. And every ICE roadblock with guns pulled out.

The HMD Skyline manages replaceable battery and IP65 (find a video to show how it comes apart! ) , but it's closed-ROM with no known exploits - ( would LOVE to be 'well, actually'd about this.)
#HMD #GraphineOS -
Have to say it. I'm really enjoying Bazzite so far. Not just for games, a solid everyday driver.
I know it's not new years yet, but #Bazzite and #GraphineOS have been a 2025 blessing. Although, still need a good google maps replacement. Suggestions?

I don't know why I get shocked, because privacy is and has been under attack for a long time now. But still....

Since my switch to @GrapheneOS, my notifications for my email haven't been working which it turns out is a HUGE LIFE HACK!! If you need your email on your phone because you are stuck in the world with the rest of us but dont need to know every time you receive a new email turn those notifications off and be freeeee

Love how #Google has decided to lock down #Android in increasingly ridiculous ways. I can no longer save files to my downloads folder, for "security and privacy reasons." This includes USB transfer from my PC to my phone, as well as Tailscale. Not even iOS is this restrictive! Switching to something like #GraphineOS or #lineage becomes more and more tempting by the day.

CW: UNDEVeloped Devs vs DEVeloped Devs (communication)
This video link below confirms why mental therapy is need by all of us ESPECIALLY THOSE DOING TOO MUCH COMPUTER WORK.
🎬 Why I deleted GrapheneOS
byhttps://yewtu.be/watch?v=4To-F6W1NT0&listen=false
💬 MY COMMENTS ON DEVS IN GENERAL...
MANY OF THE #DEVS I'VE TRIED WITH SHOW DISORDERS THAT IN SHORT ARE LIMITED / RETARDED QUIETLY OR NOT... sleep deprived, lacking depth, short-text mode only etc...
So while I might lose 2 fans in saying that (again just in short devs don't want longer emotions or depth between others) and so that's how you screw up life. It's not just software to interface.
You have to put some other people and logic FIRST, else you lose it no matter what project you have.
In this video both are able but one clearly over-reacts to 1 comment and spends too much time weaponising it.
It is about code of conduct and frankly humanness NOT JUST COMPUTERS - TIME TO SKILL-UP people. OR ELSE projects fail across the board and people like that #rugpull it also (though in this case I don't question his dedication but still WE NEED NEW AND BETTER DEVELOPERS with communication skills else ALL is LOST).

⚠️ #GRAPHINEOS <--- not the right spelling but many hashtag on it! ⚠️

Okay sounds great. If cloud storage is the biggest deal, then you should be able to find a $5 or $10 #VPS in the country of your choice that will certainly be performance enough. A few bucks more for a decent amount of storage:
If you need more than that, and you're self-hosting NextCloud, then #Wasabi can extend your NextCloud space with #S3 compatible storage buckets that you can literally just plug into your #NextCloud server for dirt cheap terabytes:
https://wasabi.com/#free-trial
This is also an excellent solution for your on demand videos (VoD) that you self-hosted on your own #PeerTube instance (You can run that PeerTube server on the same VPS as your NextCloud insurance too) 🤠.
#Degoogling.... Awesome 👍
There's several major choices and even more services that offer solutions. Some turnkey.
My two favs are #GraphineOS and #CalyxOS. I don't tend to pay too much attention to the rivalry and apparent enmity between these two camps, because they're both trying to support the same thing with respect to #freedoms, so if you already have a #Pixel I think I'd recommend:
https://grapheneos.org/ and there's literally boatloads of videos at your disposal for the DIY. I will say, that although it's quite marginal, my experience has been that this is slightly faster (responsive), but the last time I benchmarked was on a Pixel 3XL that I still enjoy as one of my daily drivers.
The #Calyx_Institute is a well known long-time champion of freedom and protections from #industrial_surveillance #dystopia and I do recommend that folks use the "MiFi" membership service. Here's a little known privacy fact #ProTip - their mobile service anonymizes you - your name appears nowhere in the 5G cellular service plan with the carrier, so you're only one of thousands of 5G devices that's identified by only, "Calyx Institute".
It's pretty much the cheapest plan available anywhere too, and gets even cheaper the second year:
https://calyxinstitute.org/membership/internet
You can also purchase a brand new degoogled phone at a great price too with CalyxOS preinstalled:
https://calyxinstitute.org/membership/calyxos - this is my personal fav, but like I said, GraphineOS and CalyxOS are both phenomenal and GraphineOS is prolly a bit more anal where you're privacy is concerned.
And there's also https://Brax.me - Rob Braxman, he sells degoogled phones and is a great resource for privacy education, but I think I'd opt for one of the previously mentioned #ROMs to flash my #Android.
If you get some time, you might be interested in reading up a bit on Nick Merrill - imagine being in the position of not even being able to attend your own court hearings because that would be a felony❕❕❕ Your attorney can go and represent you, but you cannot. You cannot even tell your own wife ❕❕
He was the first man to fight the injustice of an NSL and to my understanding, to date being the only successful person to do so, which is the only reason we are aware of it today.
It's a very scary thing and he has blogged about his fight and dilemma extensively. It's worth a deep dive and will reinforce why you are doing the right thing by eschewing Google services.

I hope that helps!

Worth asking if anyone has experience with the #fairphone5 or something similar (doesn't seem available in the US)? That or #GraphineOS seem like reasonable routes, though I love tap-to-pay and would still have to acquiesce to Google in that respect....

Homescreen is not quite as clean as @npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m@momostr.pink 's but it still feels good. (Amber running in the background but that's it.)

I'm currently testing GraphineOS. I am positively surprised #privacy #GraphineOS
-
I just raliced my phones with #GraphineOS and #lineageos has veen the most relible phones I had over any of them with the stock rom. I just find that kind of intresting. /e/ I sadly can't say worked for me when I used it.

Well, hello from my new pixel 6a with #GraphineOS super nice and easy setup, really like it so far
-
Just a quick toot to mention how impressed I am with the battery life of my Pixel 7 Pro after installing #GraphineOS on it. I'm getting close to 50 hours on a single charge. The Google cruft doesn't just invade your privacy You can download it for free from: https://grapheneos.org/.

@thegeekfather I appreciate you sharing your experience. About to press the "Buy It Now" button for a Pixel 3 on ebay.
#GraphineOS looks promising.
