I’m seeking recommendations for PhD programs. My masters level graduate work is focused on #posthumanism, and I have extensive experience in #CommunityDevelopment. For my doctoral research I’d like to merge the two fields to re-imagine how we do and be #community in the #Anthropocene. I’m looking for a program that is pretty self-directed and ideally offers opportunities for independent studies. I’m just starting this search process from scratch.

CW: Politics about government regulations on academic institutions
The policies that are being placed on #academic institutions are actually making it harder for schools to serve their students (i.e. me, a #gradstudent). They’re required to jump through more hoops, which in turn requires students to jump through more hoops. Some of those hoops make school inaccessible to people. It seems like some of these #regulations are to help students #graduate with the ability to have a #career and pay off debts. Unfortunately, there really is no such thing as a career for this generation. That is an outdated term and concept. And the more we engage with #ai the further we will get from being able to have “careers.” The problem is that we’re not collaborating with AI. Instead we’re putting policies in place in really strange places to try to counter the effects of AI. However, we are the ones who are generating AI, so we might as well collaborate with it! #studentdebt

People keep asking me what Posthumanism is… in a few simple words (from my perspective as a #gradstudent , not an expert)… it is a decentering of the “human” in our thoughts and actions. (When I refer to “human,” I mean it in ALL senses that the “human” represents.) Another way of putting it might be: #DEI for all beings on a universal scale.
Again, not an expert… just sharing my take.

As a student in Japan, I have received a fuller education in the tenets of Western philosophy from a single class than I ever received during four years of undergraduate study in the United States of America.
Now, I am in STEM, so my only required philosophy classes have simply been those in the general education curricula, but it still seems weird to me that a western educational institution would not prioritize Western thought when an eastern educational institution does.

I suppose I can do another #introduction along with migrating. First, I'm a #mainframe DBA. My #IT career has been mostly mainframe-based, but I do other, cloud-ish things. Second, I'm a #gradstudent at #GeorgiaTech working on my Master's degree in #cybersecurity. Third, I have a five year-old son who is almost half-way through Kindergarten and will be marrying my fiancé in a few months to add her and her daughter to our family.
