So this is Burrs' TV gaming setup now. Was a fun Project - GPD Win 4 2024, Ryzen 7 8840U, 32GB RAM, 4TB NVMe. RX 9070 XT over OCuLink on a Minisforum DEG1 dock. Bazzite.
Getting it here meant writing systemd services to kill PCIe power management before it killed the oculink connection, udev rules to keep OpenRGB from raving on every wake cycle, and a lot of dmesg. Junction temps sit at 60C under load.
For reference, a PS5 Pro runs a Zen 2 CPU from 2020, 16GB RAM, and 2TB of storage. This is a current-gen Zen 4, 32GB RAM, 16GB VRAM, 4TB, an RDNA 4 GPU with roughly 3x the graphics muscle of the PS5 Pro, and the full Switch library. Undocked it's a handheld. Docked it's this science-projecty, but pretty cool little thing.

GPD launches Win 4 handheld gaming PC with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370
The GPD Win 4 is a handheld gaming PC with a 6 inch FHD touchscreen display that slides upward to reveal a physical keyboard for thumb typing and a design that makes the handheld look like an oversized PlayStation Portable… if the PSP had a keyboard and support for modern PC games.
GPD first launched the Win 4 in 2022, but has released updated models with newer, faster processors several times over the past few years. Now GPD is selling a new GPD Win 4 2025 featuring an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 “Strix Point” processor. It’s available for pre-order from Indiegogo and GPD says the Win 4 2025 should begin shipping to customers in mid-December.
Right now the only configuration of the GPD Win 4 2025 that’s available features 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage and sells for $1172. But if that price is too steep, you can also still pick up a GPD Win 2024 with a Ryzen 7 8840U processor, 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage for $851.
AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 chip should bring a significant boost in performance though – it features updated CPU and GPU architecture, more CPU and GPU cores, and a higher-performance NPU for AI applications.
Theoretically that means you can expect up to 30 percent higher frame rates in at least some games, although real-world results will likely vary from game to game. The new chip also brings efficiency improvements which could help extend battery life.
Aside from the new processor, the GPD Win 4 2025 is virtually identical to the previous-generation model though: it has the same screen, controllers, keyboard, wireless capabilities, and other features.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing, because we’re talking about a compact and versatile gaming PC with features like USB4 and OcuLink ports, an M.2 2280 slot for PCIe 4.0 x4 storage, and optional support for a 4G LTE module. But it would have been nice to see an upgraded battery or hall effect joysticks.

But GPD has a long track record of using crowdfunding campaigns for promotion and pre-orders, and while the company’s products sometimes have quality control issues or other problems, there’s relatively little risk that the Win 4 2025 is vaporware that won’t ever arrive.

One week in, and touch thumb pecking at 12 wpm (peak 28) is... survivable.
On the pictures: #i3wm on #linux running on #GPDWin4 #handheld.
Will be modifying it to fit my tactile behind-the-screeen keyboard (which I designed a couple years ago and you can see the PCB of one out of two keyboard modules is in the pictures as well).
Oh, have I told you yet that it can run #couchbase? ;-)

It seems that someone's GPD Win 4 keyboard melted, doesn't give me confidence in the long term. Or this can just be a connected standby issue.
Maybe I should go and pick up an ROG Ally at some point.

First impressions on the GPD Win 4: Liking it way more than the Steam Deck as it’s smaller, has a way better screen and haptics, and very versatile with the optical pointing device and mouse mode switch. Also it’s a bit more powerful with the Ryzen 7 6800U. Sims 4 and Civ VI is very playable as these games are more mouse and keyboard games. I like how everything works without needing much software.
It was not too bad to upgrade the SSD on it with a 2 TB.
The device while smaller and same size as the Ayaneo Air Pro, but it’s dense given it has a lot of power and has a slide out keyboard. Not sure it’s the handheld gaming PC I will use for visual novels since it’s hefty and only a little lighter than the Steam Deck, but it’s a nice piece of kit so far
