Next, we're turning our attention to the mountains in the distance and the rolling hills in the foreground. The Independence Mine area is surrounded by mountains on all side and what you see in this scene is just a fraction of what can be experienced around this location.

Here I've added more detail on the hood and jacket, such as seams, wrinkles and such. More texture work, I suppose. Also started working on the eyes.

Then we're on to the hat itself. It's a knitted hat and to be honest, at this stage I wasn't very confident this was going to turn out good at all. There was a lot of detail I wanted to capture and getting the background colors right was critical at this stage.

But, it's coming along, wouldn't you say?

In this image, we've already moved far beyond the background. The hood, the jacket and the face covering (the buff) all got their first layers of paint to setup shadows and highlighted areas. I'm particularly excited about the hood at this stage, as it's really starting to look like the reference photo.

This is one of my old WN phased Opera Pink works in gouache. It represents an evolution as painter that I experienced at the end of my first year as gouache painter. It all started with tempera paints for kids, when I saw the colors merge, I was so in love with this medium. But it took me two years, because I was into acrylics at the beginning of my five year journey as painter, to actually discover real gouache. Opera Pink is of course, not lightfast, but I love this painting a lot.

I am really proud of this one. And I love the fact that it is designer gouache, what a beautiful medium!

One day, I wish to make a living from my art, even if in five years, I would be very glad. I have questions, curiosity, all that leads me toward new art. I love my art, while I still would love to ask you, should I add yellow dots onto the flowers from my last post? I created the blue with just cobalt blue and white, and forgot to add some yellow buds. Questions that keep me going, how do I create super neat stuff, how do I spell flower buds... I am three years into gouache now and my mind is just slowly allowing me to have a concept of what I do. And can I use the #watercolor hashtag for gouache art, too?
