The Sisters of Mercy - Gimme Shelter
"Gimme Shelter" in der Fassung der englischen Band The Sisters of Mercy stammt aus dem Jahr 1983. Der Song ist keine eigene Komposition, sondern eine Neufassung. Das Original stammt von den Rolling Stones und erschien 1969 auf deren Album "Let It Bleed". Es ist ein düsteres, eindringliches Lied über Krieg, Gewalt und die Sehnsucht nach Schutz.
The Sisters of Mercy gehören zu den wichtigsten Vertretern des Gothic Rock. Kennzeichnend für die Band um Sänger Andrew Eldritch sind die tiefe, dunkle Stimme, ein einfacher Drumcomputer statt eines echten Schlagzeugs und eine insgesamt kühle, schwermütige Stimmung. Genau diesen Stempel drücken sie auch dem alten Stones-Klassiker auf und machen daraus ein Stück, das noch kälter und bedrohlicher wirkt als das Original.
Veröffentlicht wurde die Aufnahme nicht auf einem Album, sondern als zusätzlicher Titel auf der Single "Temple of Love", einem der bekanntesten Songs der Band. Für Fans ist diese Coverversion bis heute ein beliebter Klassiker aus der frühen Zeit der Sisters of Mercy.
