Heutiger Posteingang: Baarhus – Songs Under A Darkened Sky

Die schwedische Gothic-Rock-Band Baarhus (zu deutsch „Leichenhalle“) kam mir jüngst auf den melomanischen Radarschirm und hat mich so sehr beeindruckt, dass ich mir bei Bandcamp eines der letzten Exemplare des Debütalbums „Songs Under A Darkened Sky“ (limitiert auf 25 Exemplare) als CD bestellt habe. Heute kam nun Post aus Schweden.

Baarhus wurde 2024 gegründet, die Wurzeln reichen allerdings bis ins Jahr 1981 zurück, als Sänger Jimmy Storsleth die Punkband „Charlys Slavar“ mitbegründete, die 1985 in „Charly & The Slaves“ umbenannt wurde und sich in Richtung Gothic-Rock entwickelte. Die Achtziger-Vibes der „Songs Under A Darkened Sky“ sind also durchaus authentisch.

Ich bleibe gleich bei Jimmy Storsleth, der mich mit seiner dunklen Baritonstimme mehr als nur ein bisschen an Peter Murphy erinnert. Das empfinde ich als Bauhaus-Fan allerdings nicht als  verwerflich, sondern als sehr angenehm.

Mats Söderberg ist für das Drum-Programming und die Saiteninstrumente zuständig und bringt für Gothic-Rock ungewohnte Heavy-Gitarren mit. Malin Jönsson an den Keyboards steuert wunderschöne Synthie-Sounds bei, die dafür sorgen, dass die Musik sich abhebt. Diese Mischung aus Härte und Atmosphäre gefällt mir sehr gut. Besonders hat es mir der Song „When You Lied“ angetan, der mit sphärischen Synthesizern beginnt, worauf sich die verzerrte Gitarre aufbaut, was einen sehr schönen Spannungsbogen erzeugt. Und auch „The Zoo Is On Fire“, das erste Lied von Baarhus, das ich im GothDiscoInferno gespielt habe, und „The Boy In The Sandbox“ sind unbedingte Anspieltipps.

Das Album „Songs Under A Darkened Sky“ macht seinem Namen alle Ehre und vereint das Beste der düsteren Musik, Post-Punk, Gothic-Rock, Gothic-Metal und Dark-Wave, zu einer ganz eigenen und gelungenen Mixtur.

Übrigens gibt es exklusiv auf CD und Vinyl als Bonus-Track noch den Bauhaus-Klassiker „Stigmata Matyr“ in einer düster-hypnotischen Version – nah am Original und doch mit Baarhus-Note.

Gerade habe ich mir noch die „Baarhus EP“ bestellt, dort sind zwar mit „Late Is The Hour“, „The Sirens Yell“ und „When You Lied“ drei Lieder drauf, die auch in „Songs Under A Darkened Sky“ enthalten sind, gute Bands müssen allerdings unterstützt werden. Befürchtungen, ich würde mich von „bauhausmensch“ in „baarhusmensch“ umbenennen, sind unbegründet.

Heutiger Posteingang: Baarhus – Songs Under A Darkened Sky

Die schwedische Gothic-Rock-Band Baarhus (zu deutsch „Leichenhalle“) kam mir jüngst auf den melomanischen Radarschirm und hat mich so sehr beeindruckt, dass ich mir bei Bandcamp eines der letzten Exemplare des Debütalbums „Songs Under A Darkened Sky“ (limitiert auf 25 Exemplare) als CD bestellt habe. Heute kam nun Post aus Schweden.

Baarhus wurde 2024 gegründet, die Wurzeln reichen allerdings bis ins Jahr 1981 zurück, als Sänger Jimmy Storsleth die Punkband „Charlys Slavar“ mitbegründete, die 1985 in „Charly & The Slaves“ umbenannt wurde und sich in Richtung Gothic-Rock entwickelte. Die Achtziger-Vibes der „Songs Under A Darkened Sky“ sind also durchaus authentisch.

Ich bleibe gleich bei Jimmy Storsleth, der mich mit seiner dunklen Baritonstimme mehr als nur ein bisschen an Peter Murphy erinnert. Das empfinde ich als Bauhaus-Fan allerdings nicht als  verwerflich, sondern als sehr angenehm.

Mats Söderberg ist für das Drum-Programming und die Saiteninstrumente zuständig und bringt für Gothic-Rock ungewohnte Heavy-Gitarren mit.
