Henry Burton was an English Puritan who suffered for criticizing a CoE bishop. Here he reflects on the story of Lazarus and the Rich Man from Luke 16:19-31. The rich man was completely focused on himself and a sensual life. His sympathies couldn’t even cross outside his front door, where a beggar with sores was regularly placed, hoping for some crumbs.
Can our thoughts and sympathies extended outside our front door? #usaid

David Thomas, Congregationalist minister and _Homiletics_ mag editor, writes on Deuteronomy 15:11. He says in his own England, there would be far fewer paupers if landlords and nobles were to obey. They do not, thus proving Christianity in his day is largely an impious ham.
I’ve met people who say a sign of an empty profession is to bother others about their giving.
How can you open your hand wide?
