  1. Pour one out for Google Tables. 💀 The work-tracking tool and Airtable rival is officially heading to the Google Graveyard, to be discontinued by December 16, 2025. Another product added to the list. What's your go-to no-code database tool now that Tables is getting the axe?

  2. @waxy Google just cannot keep itself from killing its own products, can it? I'm honestly surprised that YouTube still exists, tbh.

  3. @Androidauth @features-Androidauth
Chrome Beta (multiple Google Account support)
Google Maps Go (lighter, smaller, less resource-intensive instance of Maps)
    Gallery
    Google Translate
Google Go (supports incognito search & has built-in Reader mode)

Installed a few of these! Now I guess I should start a Google Graveyard countdown for each of them. 🪦 ⏳

  4. Never, ever, ever, ever, everrrrr, buy Google hardware and rely on software if it comes from Google. Maybe another product manager got promoted for making a new unique fitness tracking app. #ProductManagement #GoogleGraveyard #HowManyMore

  5. There’s a reason I don’t use my Gmail address for much anymore. Privacy aside, I just don’t trust that it’s even going to exist in 10 more years, let alone 5, given the rate Google keeps killing products.

  6. This company's such a train wreck. The sad thing about it is that when these behemoths throw their weight behind something like this, it sucks all the oxygen out of the environment for a smaller competitor who may end up being more sustainable in the long-term.

  7. Funny to me that I'm still getting these kinds of notifications from Google Podcasts Manager (RIP).

  8. #GooglePodcasts is gone — and so is my faith in #Google
The #podcast app is only the latest good Google thing to die. And if Google ever wants us to buy into its promises again, this has to stop. theverge.com/2024/4/2/24118873

  9. Since Google Podcasts is going to the Graveyard, what's a good/straightforward way to listen to podcasts on Android? #podcast #googlepodcasts #googlegraveyard #mbmbam

  10. Anyone need an unopened Google Daydream View headset? They killed the platform before I could open the box. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_D

I'll also throw in a used Google Cardboard. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_C

Free if you can pick them up in person in Philly. And even if you don't want them, I'd really appreciate any ideas for using them instead of throwing them out.

UPDATE: Gone to a good home, thank you Jawns!

  11. "Effective February 22, 2024, Google Groups will no longer support new Usenet content. Posting and subscribing will be disallowed, and new content from Usenet peers will not appear. Viewing and searching of historical data will still be supported as it is done today."

Google once again showing they cannot be trusted to maintain things long term lmao

  12. Thanks to those who helped with my #DomainRegistrar search. I wanted to act before #GoogleDomains transferred my #Domains to #Squarespace.

After a review of suggested companies’ histories, websites, and pricing, I’ve started transferring my domains to #Porkbun. #Google has made it fast to transfer domains out of Google Domains. The transfer was done in an hour, unlike the 7+ days that register.com put me through in 2021.

  13. Dug up this New Yorker cartoon gem from my Album Archive.

I guess I'll just stick this ZIP file somewhere. 😊

PSA: Google is deleting some old Hangouts photos this week

It's hard to say exactly what is getting deleted, but it's easy to download.

  14. @mvexel @brewsterkahle Thanks for the boost, Martijn! I'm huge fan of #OpenStreetMap and the work you've done on #MapRoulette. I could swear we did a story on it years ago when I was working on #TWiT, but I can't find any record of it.

You and the folks at OpenStreetMap.org need volunteers, too! If anyone here loves #OpenSource projects and wants a fun challenge, they should go to maproulette.org and help add places and fix data in Open Street Map. They need people to add details about everything from highways in #SaudiArabia to #museums in #France and barbershops in the #BayArea.

We've all learned a lesson this past month about how crucial it is to have open source backups to the corporate services we depend on. There's nothing keeping #Google from sending #Maps to the #GoogleGraveyard like #Reader, #Hangouts, and all the useful editing tools that Maps used to have. I'm going to try switching to Open Street Maps, and maybe even track down some US museums websites for you!
