Google Fit has been deprecated in Android beta. Apps have to use Health Connect. Garmin suddenly worked out of the box (never worked with Google Fit and required side paid application for sync – Health Sync).

1. #Google is walking away from custody of #health data (including fitness and wellness data). The regulatory burden is too high and complex and they aren't getting paid billions to make it work.

2. Any large consumer-facing companies ready to step up and own this segment? None. Not even #Apple.

3. #EpicSoftware (the leading privately held hospital SW company, not the gameco) may try. But they are aligned with hospitals and insurers (B2B, B2G), not you or your family.

This company's such a train wreck. The sad thing about it is that when these behemoths throw their weight behind something like this, it sucks all the oxygen out of the environment for a smaller competitor who may end up being more sustainable in the long-term.

I’m a little tired after walking home

It’s good to be back in Cork today, even with Storm Kathleen on the way. I forgot to end my tracked walk when I got to Gate 26 in Schiphol Airport, and Google Fit somehow managed to pick up GPS signals every now and again as we flew home. So, it looks like I walked from Amsterdam to Cork. 🙂
