So the new neighbours finally made good on their promise to install security lights.

And you know what this guy went and did?

He texted me to let me know that installation was happening today, and asked me to please let him know if they were too bright or causing us any irritation. Like a considerate human being.

So the sun goes down, I step outside, my skin starts bubbling and my shadow gets etched into the wall. I text back "Any chance you could aim it a little lower? Quite a lot of light is shining into the upstairs bedrooms and the kids might have trouble sleeping"

10 minutes later, he texts back to ask if it's any better. He's aimed his LED floodlight completely flat downwards, casting bright even shadow-free lighting in his own yard with not a single lumen spilling into my yard. Quite a bright glow reflecting off the wall directly beneath the light, but far less intrusive, minimal light trespass, minimal contribution to our already awful light pollution problem, it's a fantastic win-win result.

There's something about "Starry Eyed" by Good Neighbours that reminds me of "Walking on a Dream", by Empire of the Sun. Similar rhythmic structures, I think, and maybe something about the vocal stylings?

I wonder if they'd make a good two-fer, or if they'd be *too* similar to each other. The pairing might just be too on-the-nose.

Unfortunately, my next door neighbour has gone to A&E so she's asked me to check in on, and feed Bobbie, her #cat. He'd left her a little gift so I got rid of that, washed all his dirty pots, dried him off after he'd come in from the #Mancunian rain, swept up his discarded biscuits and put him down fresh food and water. My #neighbours are generally pretty quiet. I live in a building of 12 units and we’ve rarely had really noisy neighbours. Occasionally, you’ll hear them when footy season is in full swing, or if they’re having a celebration, but they’re pretty good about keeping the noise down when it gets late. We even had a bunch of guys in a band living directly next door and we’d hear them practising but it was GOOD! Today, someone is playing 90s #OzRock and it is amazing. I’m just sitting here chilling, singing along to their music.

2 hours ago: "Why does the whole house smell like raw onions? What is G. [downstairs neighbour] doing downstairs?"

1 hour ago, moving to a different room: "Oh, that smells good! I wonder what he's making?"

Just now: G. knocks on my back door, and hands me a tupperware of still-warm soup, with thanks for my advice on what to do with a giant squash gifted from his father's garden.

So that's supper sorted.
