"Low HDL levels were associated with increased risk of heart disease only in white participants. The authors note that current heart-disease prediction models do not account for racial differences in the effect of HDL levels. They suggest developing risk assessments that are race-independent to improve prevention and management of cardiovascular disease in all populations.
