  8. RE: laterracita.online/@oneeyedman

    Rob Reiner’s Life in Pictures

Remembering the actor and filmmaker’s remarkable career—from his beginnings on All in the Family to his run as one of the industry’s most sought-after directors.

By Hillary Busis, December 15, 2025

Hollywood is still reeling in the wake of news that director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were killed in their Brentwood home on Sunday. As tributes to both pour in, we’re taking a look back at Reiner’s remarkable career—which began in earnest on the set of the hit 1970s sitcom All in the Family, back in the days when Reiner was best known as the son of comedy legend and Dick Van Dyke Show creator Carl Reiner. Though his parentage may have helped Reiner get his foot in the door, his talent is what got him to the next level: He won Emmys for All in the Family before moving behind the camera, directing This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men in a single eight-year period.

Below, find 28 images that tell Reiner’s story—from the TV titan’s kid to canonical filmmaker.

  20. Nothing hits you in the feels quite like dreaming about seeing a close friend across a bar, but when you approach they are no longer there.

Instead on the bar is their book of remembrance, and the event is their wake.

  23. Good morning Mastodonians! Happy Juneteenth! I'm off today, am gonna try to get to the gym for the first time in way too long, and maybe do some other stuff. But I also slept in, and now I've taken my meds, I'm somewhat awake...let's do this...

How're my friends & followers this morning?

  28. "The Kiss," Vsevolod Maksymovych ,1913.

Ukrainian Maksymovych (1894-1914) was a devotee of Aubrey Beardsley and other Art Nouveau stars; some of his other works really reflect a Beardsley style. In fact, he would blow up Beardsley's small-scale stylings to large canvases...and later critics remarked that he was managing to out-Beardsley Beardsley.

Biographical information about him is scant; he was only 19 when he produced most of his work, and apparently was a nudist and bodybuilder as well, but died by suicide in Moscow when he was only 20, seemingly despondent after the failure of his first one-man exhibition.

After his death, since his work was incompatible with official Soviet culture, it was shoved away into storage and forgotten until recent years. Now he's being rediscovered and reappraised as a significant talent that was lost early.

Tantalizingly, it seems he also dabbled in avant-garde film, which warms my cinephile heart.

From the National Art Museum of Ukraine, Kyiv.
