Turns out, I'm supposed to let the glue sit for 30 minutes before applying the gold. My failure to follow directions caused the smearing you see but I learned and that's what's important.

He even flipped the magnets: it is now hum-cancelling with the bridge pickup.

Pulled the #goldfoil #pickup I damaged and sent it back to the maker, at their invitation, for repair.
