In January, Goldfinger dropped a new album. It was...not bad, but safe. Their song Derelict with Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills is my favorite, so I decided to recreate part of the music video.

Album Review: Goldfinger - Nine Lives

In high school, Goldfinger was one of my favorite bands. I heard a few songs off their new(ish) album Nine Lives and really liked them. So, I decided to pick it up digitally.

Overall, I liked the album. It felt more like formulaic pop punk with ska elements interspersed than I was expecting. Also of note: Most of the tracks are short. Like ~2 minutes long. Which is a shame.

Stand out tracks for me are Freaking Out a Bit which I already loved and features Mark Hoppus of blink-182. Also, Derelict featuring Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills which is high energy punk.

Also, the song College about your kid going off to college...actually hits.

Yesterday we watched Goldfinger. On the positive side, the stunts were super cool. Now CGI feels often more like a parody when actors are "performing" actions that they are obviously not capable of doing.

On the other side… boy, you can see that this movie has been written by a man in the 90s. It's full of male fantasy. Bond is creepy that looks down at women and stalks them without a reason. (just a coincidence that she was a spy).

Now the music is on Plex, and it's time to listen.

So I guess in the novel, Pussy Galore from #JamesBond #Goldfinger was a lesbian and the "sex" scene was corrective rape, no way around that. Old Bond movies had some questionable elements the novels were apparently much worse(I haven't read them, but reviews make it clear)

Idea for a James Bond movie where she returns on a crusade of vengeance.

Finding actors who resemble Connery and Blackman to do this would be cool.

We are going back to back Music Monday posts with me trying to recreate an album cover!

This week, we got back to 1996 and Goldfinger's self-titled album "Goldfinger." It really is a classic punk / ska-punk album. While it doesn't have some of the memorable tracks like "Superman," on their next album, it's a fun album.

I tried to capture the feel of the cover within the confines of ACNH.

Q introduces #JamesBond to his new #AstonMartin DB5 with a plethora of gadgets including rotating license plates.
The ironic fact is that DB5's have always been very scarce and the chance of two of the same colour being in the same vicinity (apart from in the Aston factory) would have been impossible. The rotating plates would have fooled no one especially with the same driver 😂
