The Go-Go Museum in Washington, D.C., opened last month. @thrillist took a look around the 8,000-square-foot place, which pays homage to artists like Chuck Brown, the "Godfather of Go-Go," shows the connection between the genre and tracks like Nelly's "Hot In Herre," and explores go-go's influence on fashion. “Having a museum that focuses on go-go and D.C. culture is important for the youth, specifically,” says HuffPost deputy editor and Washington Association of Black Journalists president Philip Lewis. “[It] dispels the myth that the only thing worth discussing in D.C. is what’s happening on Capitol Hill."

G-Nitro’s Daily Music Wrap-Up - 10/04/24
I listen to a classic album from The Temptations, and check out an absolute banger of an album by Oriental Brothers International Band.
Favorite videos include Gia Fu killing it with a Puertorican salsa vinyl set, and Northeast Groovers killing it with a live Go-Go performance on Noochie’s Live From The Front Porch Presents.

It's time for another week of @Kitty's Tune Tuesday with the prompt of Local Bands by @HauntedOwlbear
Growing up near Washington D.C., I was exposed to a local genre known as Go-Go music in my teen years. One of my favorite groups that I grew up on and is still performing is Junkyard Band.
Here's a set from September 2023

Johnny Dorelli - “Con Lui, Con Me” (1967)
This is a super cool, very retro sounding song by Italian singer and TV personality Johnny Dorelli. It’s a cover of a 60’s-sexist anthem by Andy Williams called “Music to Watch Girls By”.
But this version is just wonderfully kitsch. Dorelli is so emotive, and the music improves on the original imho. Kinda corny, but still really fun and upbeat.
I got this from a compilation CD released in 2004 called “Stasera Shake”, a wonderfully done collection of go-go and mod dance-floor numbers from the Italian scene of the 1960’s.

I really wish I could find this full performance of TOB performing "Open Your Eyes" on the #Moechella truck in DC. Chris was singin' his ass off. Bobby Caldwell would be proud. #gogomusic #DMV #DC #gogo
