George Barrell Cheever, a Congregationalist & Presbyterian minster, argues against slavery. God has uniformly spoken against oppression (Malachi 3:5, Ps 119:134). The claim of property in people is the sum of all these oppressions.
Today, some try to rehabilitate the reputation of slavery, to forbid teaching its history.
How can you protect the stranger, fatherless, widows, the servant, and hireling? Any one particularly at risk today?

Handley Carr Glyn Moule, Anglican bishop, says slavery could not survive alongside the religion of Jesus Christ. At the same time, it wasn’t job of religion to start a servile war.
Conservatives have insisted on the latter, and then built a case for the opposite of the former.
Does Moule dismiss case that Church should have done more? My point is that the proclamation has always been there. That is what this blog is here to celebrate.
