Recensione “Nouvelle Vague”: Fino al Primo Respiro
4 maggio 1959. A Cannes, per la prima volta, viene presentato al pubblico I 400 Colpi di Truffaut, inizio folgorante di una carriera straordinaria. Tra gli spettatori c’è un collega, Jean-Luc Godard, anche lui come Truffaut scrive di cinema sui Cahiers du Cinema. Sulle lenti dei suoi inseparabili occhiali da sole si riflette il finale del film, con Jean Pierre Leaud che cammina sulla spiaggia. Basterebbe questa scena, da sola, a rendere Nouvelle Vague di Richard Linklater un film degno di essere visto. Ha perfettamente senso, a pensarci, che uno dei padri del cinema indie statunitense, cresciuto a pane e cinefilia, realizzi una dichiarazione d’amore a quella passione che lo ha nutrito sin da giovane e che l’ha reso, oggi, uno dei registi più innovativi e apprezzati del suo tempo. Ma il suo ultimo film non è un omaggio, assolutamente no: è il desiderio di trascorrere del tempo in giro con quelle persone, con Truffaut, Godard, Chabrol, Rivette e tutto il resto della compagnia, talmente folta che a tratti si fatica a memorizzare ogni volto, ogni nome. Come se Linklater fosse il protagonista di qualcosa come Midnight in Paris, e che invece di tornare nella Parigi degli anni 20, fosse stato catapultato (e noi con lui) in quella del 1959, nel momento in cui Godard decide che è arrivato il momento di esordire alla regia di un lungometraggio.
Il film ripercorre tutte le fasi che hanno portato alla nascita di Fino all’Ultimo Respiro: il bisogno di dirigere un film, la scelta della sceneggiatura (firmata proprio da Truffaut), il casting e tutta le pre-produzione, fino ai venti giorni che hanno segnato una fase di riprese che avrebbe rivoluzionato per sempre le regole di fare cinema, allo stesso modo del montaggio (“Saltate! Saltate tutto quello che non serve!”, l’ordine che darà vita alla tecnica del jumpcuts). Linklater ci catapulta su quelle strade, con Belmondo e Jean Seberg in giro per Parigi a rubare scene, quasi a improvvisare battute e movimenti (“Dammi un Bogart”, l’indicazione del regista, che avrebbe dato vita a uno dei gesti più celebri della Nouvelle Vague francese).
Nouvelle Vague è pura cinefilia: come si fa a non emozionarsi quando Jean Seberg mostra a Jean Paul Belmondo come ballano negli Stati Uniti, quello stesso ballo che Godard mostrerà in uno dei suoi film successivi, Bande à Part, in una delle scene più iconiche del suo cinema? O quando lo stesso Godard chiede a Belmondo di citare una frase qualunque di Casablanca mentre parla con Jean Seberg? Chi ama il cinema ama la Nouvelle Vague e chi ama la Nouvelle Vague amerà il film di Linklater. Il sillogismo dunque è semplice: chi ama il cinema, non potrà non innamorarsi di questo film.

I've watched one half of A Bout de Souffle and while it starts of quite entertaining, it really starts to drag with the characters just saying stuff in pointless scenes.
I'm not even sure what the plot is. There's some crimes something or other, some money or something.
A policeman was killed and he wants to sleep with the main woman character ...
I would be alright if there wasn't all the pointless filler in between.
