It dawned on me while building a #gobag that hot sauce is missing from pretty much every “how to build a go-bag” list.

Huge oversight.

Imagine your house just burned down in a wildfire. You’re stuck out in the woods. All you’ve got to eat is squirrel.

Now, if you’re not like me and don’t want to carry a big-ass bottle of sriracha around during the apocalypse, Tabasco actually makes a decent habanero sauce. And thanks to the heroic amount of vinegar in that shit, I’m pretty sure it’ll survive longer than most governments.

Also, think about the barter economy.

The posts going around with various "go bag" ideas have the right idea but I'd throw in this - when buying batteries to go with your torch (flashlight) get ones with a long shelf life. Lithium chemistry AAs can have a 20 year shelf life, and CR123s (different chemistry according to the internet) can go 10.

(on flashlights I'd recommend having at least a pair, one that takes a generally easy to come by cell size like AA, and a good high capacity rechargeable. I am very normal about flashlights)
