I stroll along, talk, I sign books, people buy me drinks, I forget where my hotel is, I get lost and fall into some local body of water... done it hundreds of times.
Going to a convention is fun!

I'm getting a lot of mail and email about FoC (I particularly liked the postcard which read 'We were *sure* it was the wallpaper, you bastard!!!!!'). I'm glad to say that most Baconians hared off after poissons rouge.

Racism was not a problem on the Discworld, because -- what with trolls and dwarfs and so on -- speciesism was more interesting. Black and white lived in perfect harmony and ganged up on green.

I really like Pratchett's witches.
Women who decided or had to learn stuff most of their peers didn't bother with. Who took over responsibilities for people because somebody had to. Who are respected but still feared (and sometimes a little resented) for doing things most others don't know much about or don't dare to attempt.
And they're still regular women at the end of the day. They have friends and families, they are scared and unsure of themselves, they are proud and foolish sometimes and they have to make sure not to get carried away with self importance and the power over people they have. Or how Pratchett called it: cackling.
And sometimes they're witches but aren't called that. And to the best of my knowledge that's a pretty good representation of how it really was. Of course it's somewhat romanticised. They have a network of witches who meet up to do witchy stuff. They use the mythisms of the mundane to a degree which isn't really realistic. And they have real magic and can fly on brooms. These are fantasy novels at the end of the day. But the core of what it means to be a witch is there and pretty accurate!
